Associations of physical activity, sedentary time, and cardiorespiratory fitness with heart rate variability in 6- to 9-year-old children: the PANIC …
2019
Purpose. To study the associations of physical activity (PA), sedentary time (ST), and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) with heart rate variability (HRV) in children. Methods. The participants were a population sample of 377 children aged 6–9 years (49% boys). ST, light PA (LPA), moderate PA (MPA), vigorous PA (VPA), and moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), and PA energy expenditure (PAEE) were assessed using a combined heart rate and movement sensor, maximal power output per kilograms of lean body mass as a measure of CRF by maximal cycle ergometer exercise test, and HRV variables (SDNN, RMSSD, LF, and HF) using 5 min resting electrocardiography. Data were analysed by linear regression adjusted …
Coactivation of Autonomic and Central Nervous Systems During Processing of Socially Relevant Information in Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Re…
2023
AbstractBody-brain interaction provides a novel approach to understand neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In this systematic review, we analyse the empirical evidence regarding coexisting differences in autonomic (ANS) and central nervous system (CNS) responses to social stimuli between individuals with ASD and typically developing individuals. Moreover, we review evidence of deviations in body-brain interaction during processing of socially relevant information in ASD. We conducted systematic literature searches in PubMed, Medline, PsychInfo, PsychArticles, and Cinahl databases (until 12.1.2022). Studies were included if individuals with ASD were compared…

Sympathetic nervous system synchrony: An exploratory study of its relationship with the therapeutic alliance and outcome in couple therapy.
2019
In previous research, we found that sympathetic nervous system synchrony, measured via electrodermal activity (EDA), occurs between participants at the start of couple therapy. The aim now was to test whether this synchrony changes during the therapy process, and how any changes may be related to clients' and therapists' evaluations of the working alliance, and the outcome of therapy. Twelve different couple therapy processes were analyzed (24 clients, plus 10 therapists, working in pairs; hence, 4 persons per session) using EDA concordance indices and questionnaires (Outcome Rating Scale, Session Rating Scale, and Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure). EDA synchrony betw…
A systematic review of international clinical guidelines for rehabilitation of people with neurological conditions : what recommendations are made fo…

Background: Upper limb impairment is a common problem for people with neurological disabilities, affecting activity, performance, quality of life, and independence. Accurate, timely assessments are required for effective rehabilitation, and development of novel interventions. International consensus on upper limb assessment is needed to make research findings more meaningful, provide a benchmark for quality in clinical practice, more cost-effective neurorehabilitation and improved outcomes for neurological patients undergoing rehabilitation. Aim: To conduct a systematic review, as part of the output of a European COST Action, to identify what recommendations are made for upper limb assessme…
European evidence-based recommendations for clinical assessment of upper limb in neurorehabilitation (CAULIN): data synthesis from systematic reviews…
2021
Abstract Background Technology-supported rehabilitation can help alleviate the increasing need for cost-effective rehabilitation of neurological conditions, but use in clinical practice remains limited. Agreement on a core set of reliable, valid and accessible outcome measures to assess rehabilitation outcomes is needed to generate strong evidence about effectiveness of rehabilitation approaches, including technologies. This paper collates and synthesizes a core set from multiple sources; combining existing evidence, clinical practice guidelines and expert consensus into European recommendations for Clinical Assessment of Upper Limb In Neurorehabilitation (CAULIN). Methods Data from systema…

Vuoristovaelluksen vaikutus autonomisen hermoston toimintaan : adaptaation etenemisen seuranta sykevälivaihtelumuuttujien ja satelliittipaikannuksen …

Vuoristoympäristö on ihmisen fysiologialle yksi epäsuosiollisimmista olosuhteista maapallolla. Viimeaikaisissa tutkimuksissa on raportoitu lupaavia tuloksia yksilöiden välisistä keskushermoston sopeutumismallieroista vuoristotaudin diagnosoinnissa. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää löytyykö ortostaatt…
Hiljaisten hetkien funktioita vaikeassa pariterapiaistunnossa
2016
Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tuoda kuvailevaa tietoa hiljaisten hetkien merkityksistä ja funktioista vaikeassa pariterapiaistunnossa. Monimenetelmäinen tutkimuksemme yhdisti terapiaistunnon elementtejä usealta tasolta; näkyvä vuorovaikutus ja siihen liittyvät hiljaiset hetket, emootioiden virittymisestä kertovat autonomisen hermoston reaktiot (ihon sähkönjohtavuus ja hengitys) autenttisessa terapiatilanteessa sekä jälkihaastattelujen kommentit ja terapiaistunnon arviointilomakkeet. Tunnistimme istunnosta kuusi hiljaisten hetkien luokkaa: 1) vetäytyminen, 2) pohdintatauko, 3) uuden suunnan tai lähestymistavan hakeminen, 4) informaation kerääminen ja asioiden syy-seuraussuhteiden selve…
