Laparoscopic Epigastric Hernia Repair
2016
Epigastric hernias are midline abdominal wall defects located between the umbilicus and the xiphoid process that do not resolve spontaneously. Symptomatic hernias require surgical repair.
Hernias internas paraduodenales: hallazgos en la tomografía computarizada

Prenatal sonographic chest and lung measurements for predicting severe pulmonary hypoplasia.
1999
Pulmonary hypoplasia was diagnosed sonographically in 32 fetuses from 20 to 33 weeks of gestation. In addition to standard biometry, transverse thoracic diameter (TTD), sagittal thoracic diameter (TSD), thoracic circumference (TC) and lung diameter (LD) were measured in all cases and compared with known nomograms. The fetuses were divided into five groups according to the main sonographic findings: group 1—skeletal dysplasia; group 2—renal agenesis; group 3—diaphragmatic hernia; group 4—hydrothorax; and group 5—others. Severe pulmonary hypoplasia (PH) was diagnosed prenatally in all cases on the basis of LD measurements. In 17 (53.1 per cent) out of 32 cases TTD was below the 5th percentile…
Double traumatic diaphragmatic injury: A case report.
2019
Highlights • Diaphragmatic injuries are rare complications from trauma. • Bilateral diaphragmatic injuries are extremely rare and just a few cases are reported. • Sometimes the diagnosis is delayed or even missed. • Both primary repair or mesh repair are safe and feasible. • The use of a polypropylene mesh with titanized surface has not been attempted before.
Hyperventilation in Adult TBI Patients: How to Approach It?
2021
Hyperventilation is a commonly used therapy to treat intracranial hypertension (ICTH) in traumatic brain injury patients (TBI). Hyperventilation promotes hypocapnia, which causes vasoconstriction in the cerebral arterioles and thus reduces cerebral blood flow and, to a lesser extent, cerebral blood volume effectively, decreasing temporarily intracranial pressure. However, hyperventilation can have serious systemic and cerebral deleterious effects, such as ventilator-induced lung injury or cerebral ischemia. The routine use of this therapy is therefore not recommended. Conversely, in specific conditions, such as refractory ICHT and imminent brain herniation, it can be an effective life-savin…

Ossovenography and Epidural Venography
1976
Henning (1940) and Ehrhardt and Kneip (1943) were the first to report injection of contrast medium into bone. In 1952 Fischgold et al. reported that contrast injections into a human spinous process resulted in an outline of the venous plexus of the attached vertebral body. In subsequent years improvements have been made which now permit contrast visualization of the venous plexuses of the entire vertebral axis.
219 Incidence Testing of Hunter Syndrome in A Population at Risk - First Results of A Binational Screening Programme
2012
Background Hunter syndrome (Mucopolysaccharidosis type II; X-linked inheritance; prevalence rate in Europe approximately 1:77000 male newborns) is a rare, progressive, multisystemic disease, caused by deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme Iduronate-2-sulfatase. Due to the very heterogeneous phenotype Hunter syndrome is often not diagnosed before pre-school age. This is unfortunate, because patients would significantly benefit from the earliest possible start of treatment containing enzyme replacement therapy. Early screening methods are possible, but due to the rarity of this disease they are too expensive to be performed in all newborns. An at-risk patient population screening provides opport…
Finite element analysis of a Bionate ring-shaped customized lumbar disc nucleus prosthesis
2021
[EN] Study design: Biomechanical study of a nucleus replacement with a finite element model. Objective: To validate a Bionate 80A ring-shaped nucleus replacement. Methods: The ANSYS lumbar spine model made from lumbar spine X-rays and magnetic resonance images obtained from cadaveric spine specimens were used. All materials were assumed homogeneous, isotropic, and linearly elastic. We studied three options: intact spine, nucleotomy, and nucleus implant. Two loading conditions were evaluated at L-3-L-4, L-4-L-5, and L-5-S-1 discs: a 1000 N axial compression load and this load after the addition of 8 Nm flexion moment in the sagittal plane plus 8 Nm axial rotation torque. Results: Maximum nuc…
