Tämän tutkielman aiheena oli tarkastella naishahmojen representaatioita sarjakuvajätti Marvelin televisiosarjassa Jessica Jones. Tarkoituksena oli tutkia, kuinka naishahmot esitetään dialogin, ulkonäön ja käyttäytymisen keinoin, sekä hahmojen fyysisten ja juonellisten kontekstien kautta. Tarkastelun kohteena olivat sarjan neljä keskeisintä naishahmoa, ja aineistona käytettiin sarjan ensimmäistä kautta, johon kuului yhteensä 13 jaksoa. Tutkimus perustui pääasiassa laadulliseen analyysiin, jota varten sovellettiin aiempaa naisrepresentaatioiden tutkimusta sekä Pearsonin (2007) hahmonrakennusmallia, joka sisälsi kuusi keskeistä hahmonrakennuksen osa-aluetta. The article is a biographical sketch devoted to the figure of Prince Józef Poniatowski (1763–1813). It was created on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of the battle of Raszyn, which took place on April 19, 1809. During this battle Józef Poniatowski impressed both his soldiers and Austrian opponents with extraordinary bravery and heroism. In the same year he received the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, which was established by Napoleon Bonaparte. Poniatowski said without false modesty that “God has entrusted me with the honor of Poles, I will give him to God.” He was also prophetically saying that “You must die bravely”. The aim of this lecture was first to explore the issues around the figure of the superhero – its origins, definition, and its status in academia – and to expose the relation between the representation of superheroes and American national identities. The lecture then consisted in a diachronic analysis of emblematic superheroes (in novels, comics, and movies) in relation to the major conflicts involving the United States in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, conflicts which redefined American identities (the First and Second World Wars, the Vietnam war, and the ‘war on terror’).
