A high-density SNP linkage scan with 142 combined subtype ADHD sib pairs identifies linkage regions on chromosomes 9 and 16

As part of the International Multi-centre ADHD Gene (IMAGE) project we have completed an affected sibling pair study of 142 narrowly defined DSM-IV combined type ADHD proband-sibling pairs. We found suggestive linkage on chromosomes 9 and 16 with non-parametric multipoint peak LOD scores of 2.13 and 3.1 respectively. There have been several previous ADHD linkage scans. A novel KCNQ3 mutation in familial epilepsy with focal seizures and intellectual disability

Mutations in the KCNQ2 gene encoding for voltage-gated potassium channel subunits have been found in patients affected with early onset epilepsies with wide phenotypic heterogeneity, ranging from benign familial neonatal seizures (BFNS) to epileptic encephalopathy with cognitive impairment, drug resistance, and characteristic electroencephalography (EEG) and neuroradiologic features. SIL1 mutations and clinical spectrum in patients with Marinesco-Sjogren syndrome.

Marinesco-Sjogren syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive multisystem disorder featuring cerebellar ataxia, early-onset cataracts, chronic myopathy, variable intellectual disability and delayed motor development. More recently, mutations in the SIL1 gene, which encodes an endoplasmic reticulum resident co-chaperone, were identified as the main cause of Marinesco-Sjogren syndrome. Here we describe the results of SIL1 mutation analysis in 62 patients presenting with early-onset ataxia, cataracts and myopathy or combinations of at least two of these. Spondylo-costal dysostosis in two siblings

Two new cases of Spondylo-Costal Dysostosis (SCD) are reported in two siblings with strikingly similar skeletal abnormalities. Parental consanguinity documents in this family an autosomal recessive inheritance of trait. Clinical variability of SCD is discussed on the basis of clinical and radiological features. Its genetic heterogeneity is pointed out even considering the occurrence of cases with autosomal dominant as well as recessive inheritance.

Familial thoracic aortic aneurysm/dissection with patent ductus arteriosus: genetic arguments for a particular pathophysiological entity.

International audience; Thoracic aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection (TAA and AD) are an important cause of sudden death. Familial cases could account for 20% of all cases. A genetic heterogeneity with two identified genes (FBN1 and COL3A1) and three loci (3p24-25 or MFS2/TAAD2, 5q13-q14 and 11q23.2-24) has been shown previously. Study of a single family composed of 179 members with an abnormally high occurrence of TAA/AD disease. A total of 40 subjects from three generations were investigated. Seasonality of suicide: a multi-country multi-community observational study.

Aims We aimed to investigate the heterogeneity of seasonal suicide patterns among multiple geographically, demographically and socioeconomically diverse populations. Methods Weekly time-series data of suicide counts for 354 communities in 12 countries during 1986–2016 were analysed. Two-stage analysis was performed. In the first stage, a generalised linear model, including cyclic splines, was used to estimate seasonal patterns of suicide for each community.
