Interesterification of rapeseed oil catalysed by a low surface area tin (II) oxide heterogeneous catalyst

Abstract The interesterification of rapeseed oil was performed in a batch reactor using for the first time low surface area massive tin(II) oxide as heterogeneous catalyst and methyl acetate as acyl acceptor. The effect of reaction temperature, methyl acetate to oil molar ratio and catalyst loading on the performances of the process were investigated. Yields in fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) and triacetin (TA) up to 90% and 70% respectively, were achieved after 4 h of reaction time at 483 K in the presence of 0.69 mol of SnO per mole of rapeseed oil using a methyl acetate to oil molar ratio of 40. Who uses intermediaries in international trade? Evidence from firm-level survey data

The present paper uses data from the World Bank Enterprise Survey conducted in Turkey in 2005 to shed light on the firms which use intermediaries in international trade. It lends robust empirical support to recent theories which suggest that indirect exporters are mostly small firms which are not profitable enough to cover the high fixed costs of building their own distribution network abroad. Manufacturers which introduce entirely new products to foreign markets are more likely to use trade intermediaries, as are firms which produce low quality goods. Escherichia coli inactivation by neutral solar heterogeneous photo-Fenton (HPF) over hybrid iron/montmorillonite/alginate beads

Abstract Hybrid alginate montmorillonite iron enriched beads (Fe-MABs) were synthesized using ion gelation method and used as catalyst in Escherichia coli inactivation in neutral solar photo-Fenton conditions. A kinetic analysis showed that the E. coli inactivation by Fe-MABs followed a pseudo first-order kinetics model. Complete disinfection was achieved in 1 h of irradiation by using Fe-MABs in the presence of 10 ppm of H 2 O 2 . Preliminary studies on recyclability showed possible beads reused up to four times. Overall, Fe-MABs represent an environmental friendly material able to achieve bactericidal performance measured by E. coli inactivation under photooxidative conditions.

Catalytic activity of rare-earth-supported catalysts in Friedel–Crafts acylations

Abstract Friedel–Crafts acylations are catalysed by rare-earth-supported catalysts. The preparation, characterization and performance of these solid catalysts in a test acylation reaction and in a variety of syntheses of aromatic ketones are reported. In contrast to the reactions using AlCl3, the experimental conditions are non-polluting and the final work-up does not require any aqueous treatment.

Gas-phase hydrogenation of propionitrile on copper-lanthanide oxides

Abstract The hydrogenation of propionitrile on copper-lanthanide oxide catalysts (2Cu·CeO 2 and 4Cu·Ln 2 O 3 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd)) was studied in the gas phase. The activity of the catalysts varies with the lanthanide in the order 2Cu·CeO 2  > 4Cu·Pr 2 O 3  > 4Cu·La 2 O 3  ≥ 4Cu·Nd 2 O 3 , while the activation energies varies in the opposite order, except for 2Cu·CeO 2 . The main product was the primary amine, n -propylamine. The formation of the unstable imine CH 3 CH 2 N CHCH 3 as a major product over 2Cu·CeO 2 seems to be consistent with the acidity of the catalyst. Comparison of the photocatalytic degradation of 2-propanol in gas–solid and liquid–solid systems by using TiO2–LnPc2 hybrid powders

Photocatalytic degradation of 2-propanol was carried out as a probe reaction both in gas–solid and in liquid–solid systems in the presence of TiO2 both bare and impregnated with lanthanide (Sm, Gd, Ho) bis-phthalocyanines (LnPc2) used as sensitizers. Continuous and batch photo-reactors, irradiated with an equal flux of photons, were used in gas–solid and in liquid–solid systems, respectively. Imbalance between genomic gain and loss identifies high-risk neuroblastoma patients with worse outcomes

Survival in high-risk neuroblastoma (HR-NB) patients remains poor despite multimodal treatment. We aimed to identify HR-NB patients with worse outcomes by analyzing the genomic instability derived from segmental chromosomal aberrations. The complexity in composition and function of the eukaryotic nucleus is achieved through its organization in specialized nuclear compartments. The Drosophila chromatin remodeling ATPase ISWI plays evolutionarily conserved roles in chromatin organization. Interestingly, ISWI genetically interacts with the hsrω gene, encoding multiple non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) essential, among other functions, for the assembly and organization of the omega speckles.
