Artikkelissani tarkastelen Suomi24-keskustelupalstan homouteen ja heterouteen liittyviä toistuvia diskursseja. Analyysi on toteutettu korpusavusteisena diskurssintutkimuksena (CADS), jossa suureen dataan perustuva tilastollinen avainsana-analyysi nostaa esiin suomalaisen yhteiskunnan sosiaalisesti jaetut diskurssit. Tulokset yhtäältä tukevat aiempia media-analyyseissä tehtyjä havaintoja voimakkaista affekteista ja vihapuheesta sekä homoseksuaalisuuden politisoitumisesta ja uskonnollistumisesta. Paternal masculinities in early fatherhood: dominant and counter narratives by Finnish first-time fathers

In this article, we seek to extend understanding of the role of gender in early fatherhood by examining narratives of paternal masculinities, that is, the social and cultural constructions of gendered practices and conventions produced by men on their roles as male parents. The data comprised interviews with 44 Finnish first-time fathers (aged 20-42 years) living in a heterosexual relationship. The narrative of the “decent father,” was identified as the dominant narrative of paternal masculinity in early fatherhood. A cross-sectional seroepidemiologic study was carried out on household contacts and sexual partners of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibody-positive intravenous drug abusers in Palermo, Italy, in 1985 to evaluate factors that influenced HIV transmission. A total of 43 index cases, 36 spouses or heterosexual partners, 28 children, and 55 adult household members were enrolled. None of the household members without sexual contact, who had shared items and facilities and had interacted with the index cases, contracted HIV infection. Recent studies on boys and young men’s heterosexual practices point in contradictory directions. On the one hand, boys and young men seem to be placing less value on “hard”, overtly aggressive masculinity and compulsive heterosexuality, in keeping with their adoption of more egalitarian attitudes in their sexual relationships. On the other hand, the hegemonic masculine notions that associate “real” men with sexual prowess persist as well.
