Search for extra dimensions in diphoton events from proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV in the ATLAS detector at the LHC

The large difference between the Planck scale and the electroweak scale, known as the hierarchy problem, is addressed in certain models through the postulate of extra spatial dimensions. A search for evidence of extra spatial dimensions in the diphoton channel has been performed using the full set of proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV recorded in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. This dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.9fb[superscript −1]. The diphoton invariant mass spectrum is observed to be in good agreement with the Standard Model expectation. Neutrino Physics with JUNO

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 kton multi-purpose underground liquid scintillator detector, was proposed with the determination of the neutrino mass hierarchy as a primary physics goal. Untangling CP violation and the mass hierarchy in long baseline experiments

In the overlap region, for the normal and inverted hierarchies, of the neutrino-antineutrino bi-probability space for $\nu_\mu \to \nu_e$ appearance, we derive a simple identity between the solutions in the ($\sin^2 2\theta_{13}$, $\sin \delta$) plane for the different hierarchies. The parameter $\sin^2 2\theta_{13}$ sets the scale of the $\nu_\mu \to \nu_e$ appearance probabilities at the atmospheric $\delta m^2_{atm} \approx 2.4 \times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2$ whereas $\sin \delta $ controls the amount of CP violation in the lepton sector. Nonlocal density correlations as a signature of Hawking radiation from acoustic black holes

We have used the analogy between gravitational systems and nonhomogeneous fluid flows to calculate the density-density correlation function of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of an acoustic black hole. The emission of correlated pairs of phonons by Hawking-like process results into a peculiar long-range density correlation. Quantitative estimations of the effect are provided for realistic experimental configurations.

Gravitational Wave Echo of Relaxion Trapping

To solve the hierarchy problem, the relaxion must remain trapped in the correct minimum, even if the electroweak symmetry is restored after reheating. In this scenario, the relaxion starts rolling again until the backreaction potential, with its set of local minima, reappears. Depending on the time of barrier reappearance, Hubble friction alone may be insufficient to retrap the relaxion in a large portion of the parameter space. Flavoured leptogenesis: A successful thermal leptogenesis withN1mass below 108GeV

We prove that taking correctly into account the lepton flavour dependence of the CP asymmetries and washout processes, it is possible to obtain successful thermal leptogenesis from the decays of the second right-handed neutrino. The asymmetries in the muon and tau-flavour channels are then not erased by the inverse decays of the lightest right-handed neutrino, N1. In this way, we reopen the possibility of 'thermal leptogenesis' in models with a strong hierarchy in the right-handed Majorana masses that is typically the case in models with up-quark–neutrino Yukawa unification.

Cosmology of the Planck Era from a Renormalization Group for Quantum Gravity

Homogeneous and isotropic cosmologies of the Planck era before the classical Einstein equations become valid are studied taking quantum gravitational effects into account. The cosmological evolution equations are renormalization group improved by including the scale dependence of Newton's constant and of the cosmological constant as it is given by the flow equation of the effective average action for gravity. It is argued that the Planck regime can be treated reliably in this framework because gravity is found to become asymptotically free at short distances.
