MRgFUS results Italy
2017
PURPOSE: To present our preliminary results achieved with the first Italian installation of a trans-cranial MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery (tcMRgFUS) certified system for functional neurosurgery. Moreover, to our knowledge, this is the world-first tcMRgFUS system ever installed on a 1.5T MRI unit. Technical issues faced to achieve a safe and effective treatment will be discussed focusing on MR high-resolution live imaging and thermometry sequences optimization. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Patient enrollment was based on indication for functional neurosurgery and evidence of medication-refractory disease; a detailed medical history has been collected together with a complete clinical examin…
Optimising training adaptations and performance in military environment.
2018
Abstract Objectives Worldwide decreases in physical fitness and increases in body fat among youth have set challenges for armed forces to recruit physically capable soldiers. Therefore, knowledge of optimizing physical adaptation and performance through physical training is vital. In addition, maintaining or improving physical performance among professional soldiers in various military environments is crucial for overall military readiness. The present review focuses on the effects of military training on physical performance by searching for optimal methods to do it. Design and methods Review article based on selected literature searches using the main keywords ‘physical performance’ and ‘…

[Non-invasive trans-cranial magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasounds surgery to treat neurologic disorders]
2016
In past years non-invasive clinical applications of magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound for t…
The effect of high-intensity interval exercise program on blood lipids and hormones in recreationally active adults
2015
Johdanto. Tällä hetkellä tutkimuksia tästä a…
The effects of a 10-week combined maximal and explosive strength and high-intesity endurance training period on neuromuscular performance and 3K time…
2015
Combined strength and endurance training has been noted to produce significant improvements in strength and endurance performances in both men and women. However, there seems to be moderate inhibitory effect regarding strength adaptations, especially considering power production. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a 10-week combined maximal and explosive strength and high-intensity endurance training period on neuromuscular performance and 3K time-trial in males and females. A total of 19 healthy recreationally trained subjects (Males: M= 10, Females: F= 9) completed a 10-week combined strength and endurance training period. All subjects trained twice a week strength and…
Comparison of the effects of high-intensity interval running, high-intensity interval circuit training and steady-state running on body composition a…
2015
Introduction. The measurement of body composition is important for several reasons, but nowadays when obesity and overweight are common problems all over the world even more attention should be given to body composition. Excess amount of fat is itself a risk for health, but it also predisposes to many diseases, one of which is diabetes. It has been shown that with regular physical activity and exercise the body composition and body’s glucose regulation can be improved. In common activity guidelines the amount of traditional endurance and resistance training takes hours per week to perform to fill the recommendations. However, since it has been shown that one of the most common reasons for n…

Acute HIT session induced changes and recovery in muscle activation level, voluntary force production and jump performance during 8 weeks of HIT trai…
2017
High-intensity interval training (HIT) has gained wide popularity among competitive athletes and sport enthusiasts in the recent decades. While an extensive amount of research has been done on acute neuromuscular (NM) response and recovery after low-moderate intensity endurance training, the data regarding HIT in recreational athletes remains to be limited. In order to reduce that gap, the present study investigated the acute HIT session induced changes and recovery in muscle activation level, voluntary force production and counter movement jump performance during 8 weeks of HIT training in recreationally endurance trained men. A total of 9 subjects age 30.7 years (± 5.8), participated in t…
5th International Symposium on Focused Ultrasound
2016
Introduction Breast fibroadenomata (FAD) are benign lesions which occur in about 10 % of all women. Diagnosis is made by triple assessment (physical examination, imaging and/or histopathology/cytology). For a definitive diagnosis of FAD, the treatment is conservative unless the patient is symptomatic. For symptomatic patients, the lumps can be surgically excised or removed interventionally by vacuum-assisted mammotomy (VAM). Ablative techniques like high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), cryo-ablation and laser ablation have also been used for the treatment of FAD, providing a minimally invasive treatment without scarring or poor cosmesis. This review summarises current trials using mini…
