Reviving the lost spaces under urban highways and bridges: an empirical study

2019

Purpose The fast development of urban movement infrastructures has created neglected urban places in cities. This study aims to provide users’ preferences for designing lost spaces that are a by-product of elevated urban highways (UHs) and bridges to develop a conceptual model for better environmental design. Design/methodology/approach This research is conducted by a combination of both qualitative and quantitative methods. In the first phase, to explore the citizen’s environmental preferences based on the Q-sort technique and in-depth interviews, the ideas of 50 users were considered up to data saturation. The preferences of people for designs under urban bridges were extracted by conten…

Expanding the network of highways and expressways in the post-socialist countries of the European Union in the years 2004–2019

2020

The aim of this article is to analyze the pace of expansion of the network of highways and expressways over the past 15 years of membership in the European Union. Joining the European Union by such post-socialist countries as: Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia (2004), Bulgaria, Romania (2007) and Croatia (2013) as well as the funds received for the development of transport infrastructure significantly contributed to the boom in the pace of road investments in these countries. The existing networks of highways and expressways in the 11 analyzed countries are at the stage of creating major national and international connections. The most advan…

Modelling pavement surface characteristics for noise prediction through Bailey-related indicators

2021

The aggregate gradation of bituminous mixtures (hot mix asphalts, HMA) is one of the major factors affecting their surface texture. In turn, this latter is a crucial factor and influences drivers and bystanders’ safety, comfort, and health. Despite this, the design of texture levels still lacks sound bases and dedicated algorithms and this negatively affects the acoustic design of bituminous mixtures. Consequently, the objectives of this study were confined into the derivation of relationships to be used in mix design to predict texture levels. Experimental data were analyzed, in the pursuit of setting up appropriate models and algorithms. Analyses involved the consideration of Bailey-relat…

Kierunki rozwoju sieci autostrad i dróg ekspresowych w Polsce

2018

W artykule przedstawiono kierunki rozwoju sieci autostrad i dróg ekspresowych w Polsce w latach 1990-2018. Zbudowano główne autostrady kraju A-1, A-2 i A-4.

Potencjał ludnościowy miast a sieć autostrad i dróg ekspresowych w Polsce

2021

W artykule przedstawiono potencjał ludnościowy najważniejszych autostrad i dróg ekspresowych w Polsce.
