Motivation to Study for PhD Degree: Case of Latvia

2014

AbstractThis paper studies what goals individuals pursue when enrolling in doctoral studies and how it affects the characteristics of the university they find important for choosing it and information sources on doctoral programme they find useful. It uses data collected in 2014 from PhD students and PhD candidates in 14 universities in Latvia and from students born in Latvia but studying abroad. The main result is substantial heterogeneity of goals by field of study, allowing to divide the latter into three groups. Group 1 contains arts & humanities, economics, and education & psychology. Compared to it, students from Group 2 (biology, agriculture, environment & geoscience; physics, mathem…

Vadības stili un to ietekme uz darbinieku motivāciju uzņēmumā "OC Vision".

2020

Darbs sastāv no 3 nodaļām. Pirmajā nodaļā darba autors sniedz ieskatu darba teori…

The motivational values of social entrepreneurs

2015

The main goal of this research is to understand what kind of motivational values social entrepreneurs have (motivational types of values), how social entrepreneurs prioritize these values (value prioritization) and if these values had an impact on becoming a social entrepreneur and continuing to work as one (impact of the values). The research on social entrepreneurship has largely ignored for-profit social entrepreneurship and the purpose of this research is to contribute to this shortcoming by taking the for-profit entrepreneurs’ perspective. A qualitative case study was chosen as a research method and the empirical data was gathered by interviewing for-profit social entrepreneurs using a…

Motivations for business start-up: are there any differences between disabled and non-disabled people?

2014

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon – Universitetet i Agder 2014 This master‟s thesis seeks to investigate whether motivations for business start-up between persons with and without disabilities differ. The motivation for this study is that, disabled entrepreneurs may have unique reasons which need the attention of all stakeholders who advocate for equal human rights. The study uses a unique sample of 273 from Ecuadorian micro-bank. The findings indicate that persons without disabilities are more materialistic than persons with disabilities. Materialism relates to opportunity-driven entrepreneurship where individuals start business as a result of available market opportunities. The re…

Śmierć, nieobecność i samotność - motyw traumatyzującej utraty matki w zbiorze opowiadań Lejli Kalamujić "Zovite me Esteban"

2019

Lejla Kalamujić (bom 1980) is a Bosnian writer from Sarajevo and the author of two collections of stories: Anatomy of a Smile (2009) and Call me Esteban (2015). The paper presents the autobiographical stories collected in the second book, in which the most important theme is death, especially the premature death of a mother. The aim of the article is to show the motive of the loss of a mother. The writer uses first-person narration and the protagonist is a woman named Lejla, a type of alter ego for her. Dampness and student-reported social climate: two multilevel mediation models.

2021

Background Little previous research has analysed the relationship between schools' indoor air problems and schools' social climate. In this study, we analysed a) whether observed mould and dampness in a school building relates to students' perceptions of school climate (i.e. teacher-student relationships and class spirit) and b) whether reported subjective indoor air quality (IAQ) at the school level mediates this relationship. Methods The data analysed was created by merging two nationwide data sets: survey data from students, including information on subjective IAQ (N = 25,101 students), and data from schools, including information on mould and dampness in school buildings (N = 222). The …

Application of Molecular Topology for the Prediction of Reaction Yields and Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Heterocyclic Amidine Derivatives

2011

Topological-mathematical models based on multiple linear regression analyses have been built to predict the reaction yields and the anti-inflammatory activity of a set of heterocylic amidine derivatives, synthesized under environmental friendly conditions, using microwave irradiation. Two models with three variables each were selected. The models were validated by cross-validation and randomization tests. The final outcome demonstrates a good agreement between the predicted and experimental results, confirming the robustness of the method. These models also enabled the screening of virtual libraries for new amidine derivatives predicted to show higher values of reaction yields and anti-infl…

Paving the way of systems biology and precision medicine in allergic diseases: The MeDALL success story

2016

MeDALL Mechanisms of the Development of ALLergy; EU FP7-CP-IP; Project No: 261357; 20 (10) -2015 proposed an innovative approach to develop early indicators for the prediction, diagnosis, prevention and targets for therapy(.) MeDALL linked epidemiological, clinical and basic research using a stepwise, large-scale and integrative approach: precisely phenotyped children followed in 14 birth cohorts spread across Europe were combined with systems biology omics, IgE measurement using micro-arrays and environmental data(.) Multimorbidity in the same child is more common than expected by chance alone, suggesting that these diseases share causal mechanisms irrespective of IgE sensitisation(.) IgE …
