Earthquakes are phenomena that are still being learned by the scientific community, and poorly known, especially as regards the prevention, by the population. Having a more complete knowledge is a basic step in understanding the vastness and intensity of the destructive phenomenon that involves a great amount of people. The recent earthquakes occurred in Central Italy (L’Aquila and Amatrice earthquakes) are examples that demonstrate the importance of having knowledge about these phenomena to contrast their destructive effects. Why are bodily washing practices the way they are in nursing? Michel Foucault argues that modern democratic societies discipline human bodies in accordance with political interests. In the extension of that argumentation we will show that bodily cleanliness in modern nursing may have been used as a disciplining tool. Representing Tibetan Buddhism in books on spirituality : A discourse-historical approach

This article looks into how Tibetan Buddhism is framed in terms of East-West dichotomy in six popular books on Buddhism and spirituality. Discourse Historical Approach is employed to uncover the rhetorical representation of Tibetan Buddhism to the readers. A critical post-colonial perspective offers an insight into various power dynamics, arising from these representations, structured according to Yoshikawa's model of intercultural communication between East and West. The various power outcomes of rhetorical styles range from Ethnocentric to Dialogical, with their ethical consequences and problematics discussed.

Artykuł ukazuje obraz Józefa Piłsudskiego w zadaniach z historii, które przygotowywane zostały na potrzeby ogólnopolskich egzaminów zewnętrznych przez Centralną Komisję Egzaminacyjną. Przeanalizowano zadania z arkuszy gimnazjalnych oraz maturalnych. Analiza wykazała satysfakcjonującą obecność Józefa Piłsudskiego w poleceniach odnoszących się do wydarzeń z I wojny światowej, gdy jego droga do wolnej Polski była już na ostatniej prostej.

Jean-Paul Sartre’s Critique de la raison dialectique consists of two tomes: La théorie des ensembles pratiques (published in 1960) and L’intelligibilité de l’histoire (published posthumously in 1985). The first tome includes two books: De la «praxis» individuelle au pratico-inerte and Du groupe à l’histoire. Thus Jean-Paul Sartre combines existentialism and historical materialism, referring to the concepts of praxis and of history. The concept of history is the main theme of his work, and it can be understood as a dialectical process in the complex system of the human relationships.

Adverbial expressions within the legal domain: from medieval fueros to their consolidation in language

Given the importance of legal language in the study of historical phraseological, it is here analyzed the presence, use and evolution of adverbial phrases in some outstanding medieval fueros, and also how a good number of adverbial expressions have transcended and developed from legal language to other contexts, owed to —at least in some cases— a clear colloquial origin (a sabiendas, por bien...). This characteristic joins many others, such as the creation of complex syntagmas derived from the union of simple expressions: de cabo a rabo, a diestro y a sinestro, a tuerto o a derecho, etc. It is therefore interesting to study the individual, particular history of each adverbial phrase found, …

Przedmiotem artykułu jest sposób funkcjonowania w obiegu społecznym pamięci o powstaniach śląskich. Ważną rolę pełnią tu opowieści byłych powstańców, które ze względu na dystans czasowy podlegają folkloryzacji i fabularyzacji (do narracji włączane są wydarzenia późniejsze, związane na przykład z przeżyciami z czasów II wojny światowej). Wspomnienia drukowane są w antologiach, zrealizowano również projekt Filmowa encyklopedia powstań śląskich, gdzie o życiu powstańców opowiadają ich potomkowie. Wiedza o powstaniach popularyzowana jest także przez organizowanie konkursów dla młodzieży, przedstawianie rekonstrukcji historycznych, spotkania i wystawy.
