Synthesis of nanostructured protein–mineral-microcapsules by sonication

We propose a simple and eco-friendly method for the formation of composite protein–mineral-microcapsules induced by ultrasound treatment. Protein- and nanoparticle-stabilized oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions loaded with different oils are prepared using high-intensity ultrasound. The formation of thin composite mineral proteinaceous shells is realized with various types of nanoparticles, which are pre-modified with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) and subsequently characterized by EDX, TGA, zeta potential measurements and Raman spectroscopy. Water shortage and scarcity are issues of global concern. Water pollution caused by organic micropollutants further aggravates the problem, by rendering an already scarce resource unfit for human consumption. The existing conventional wastewater treatment methods and infrastructure were not designed to eliminate micropollutants. Tailoring the interaction between a gold nanocluster and a fluorescent dye by cluster size : creating a toolbox of range-adjustable pH sensors

We present a novel strategy for tailoring the fluorescent azadioxatriangulenium (KU) dye-based pH sensor to the target pH range by regulating the pKa value of the gold nanoclusters. Based on the correlation between the pKa and surface curvature of ligand-protected nanoparticles, the pKa value of the gold nanoclusters was controlled by size. In particular, three different-sized para-mercaptobenzoic acid (p-MBA) protected gold nanoclusters, Au25(p-MBA)18, Au102(p-MBA)44, and Au210–230(p-MBA)70–80 were used as the regulator for the pH range of the KU response. On-chip purification of arc-discharge synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotubes via mobile liquid interface

This thesis reports a novel approach for purification of carbon nanotube (CNT) samples deposited on smooth silicon substrates through a mobile liquid interface interacting with carbonaceous debris particles that contaminate the deposition. The method is based on physical interaction of the particles and the three-phase contact line via capillary interface forces, i.e. the surface tension, which results in the detachment of chemically indispersible colloids from the sample surface. Tässä tutkielmassa selvitettiin kultananopartikkelien ja itsejärjestäytyvän DNA-järjestelmän soveltuvuutta nanoteknologian komponenttina. Työssä yhdistetään funktionalisoituja kultapartikkeleita jo valmiiksi tutkittuun itsejärjestäytyvään DNA-rakenteeseen työnimeltään BAB. Se muodostuu kolmen TX-tiilen ketjusta, johon suunnittelin kandidaatin tutkinnossani kiinnityskohdat kultapartikkeleille.
