Maisterintutkielmassani tarkastelen neuvolan kielikysymyksiä. Aihetta on tutkittu hyvin vähän, vaikka terveydenhoitajat kohtaavatkin työssään monenlaisia kielikysymyksiä etenkin maahanmuuttajataustaisia asiakkaita kohdatessaan. Tutkimuksissa on keskusteltu paljon työelämän kielivaatimuksista. Terveydenhoitajan täytyy arvioida oman kielitaitonsa lisäksi asiakkaan kielitaidon riittämistä mm. tulkkaustarvetta pohtiessaan. Yksi keskeinen terveydenhoitajan tehtävä on arvioida lapsen kielenkehitystä ja antaa ohjeita lapsen suotuisan kehityksen edistämiseksi.
