Family members are important providers of care for older people. In residential long-term care, however, their role is not always simple and straightforward: responsibility for care provision rests officially with staff members, but in practice family members often contribute to providing care. Suomalaisen väestön yleisimpiä pitkäaikaissairauksia ovat perinteisesti olleet erilaiset sydän- ja verisuonisairaudet. Diabeteksen esiintyvyys on voimakkaassa kasvussa, jonka vuoksi siitä on tullut myös yksi maamme yleisimmistä pitkäaikaissairauksista. Yhdessä nämä sairaudet ovat edesauttaneet erilaisten munuaissairauksien yleistymistä. Myös ikääntymisen on nähty olevan yhteydessä munuaissairauksien lisääntymiseen. Browsing hinders the regeneration of broadleaved trees in uneven-aged forest management in southern Finland

Uneven-aged forest management has attained increasing popularity. It may benefit biodiversity, buffer against pests and abiotic damages, decrease runoff from clearcuts and improve recreational values. We studied how gap cuttings and single-tree selection cuttings influence browsing damage in spruce-dominated forests in south-central Finland. Overall, browsing damage was especially frequent in aspen and rowan, but also in birch. The larger the basal area left in harvesting, the lower the browsing pressure on birch and rowan; neither the harvesting method nor the seedling density had an independent effect on browsing damage. The purpose of this study was to develop and test an empirical model of social and health care educators' competence in higher and professional education. Aim: The purpose of the study was to identify and describe the characteristic profiles of evidence-based practice competence of educators in the social, health and rehabilitation sectors and to establish relevant background factors. Design: This study was carried out as a descriptive cross-sectional study.
