Care Workers’ Readiness for Robotization : Identifying Psychological and Socio-Demographic Determinants

2020

Successful implementation of robots in welfare services requires that the staff approves of them as a part of daily work tasks. In this study, we identified psychological and socio-demographic determinants associated with readiness for robotization among professional Finnish care-workers. National survey data were collected from professional care workers (n = 3800) between October and November 2016. Random samples were drawn from the member registers of two Finnish trade unions. The data were analyzed with regression models for respondents with and without firsthand experience with robots. The models explained 34–39% of the variance in the readiness for robotization. The readiness was posit…

Time to care? Temporal variations of agency of the Finnish adult foster carers.

2020

This article analyses a hybrid form of housing and care service for older people called adult foster care. In Finnish adult foster care model, an older person moves to a foster care home and is cared for by a semi-professional foster carer who is not related to them. A foster care home is thus simultaneously a personal dwelling and a site of intensive care work which also changes the rhythms and routines of both the foster carer and older person. In the article I ask, how do foster carers express their temporal agency and its variations (identity, pragmatic, life course) through time work? By temporal agency I mean individuals' ability to impact on their experience of time, which is done th…

Jaetun johtajuuden näkökulma päivystyksessä tapahtuvaan työvuorokohtaiseen johtamiseen : sairaanhoitajien käsityksiä johtajuudesta, roolista ja toimi…

2017

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää vastuuhoitajien käsityksiä jaetusta johtajuudesta ja rooliin liittyvästä toimijuudesta. Tutkimukseen osallistuneet sairaanhoitajat työskentelivät sairaalan päivystysyksikön vastuuhoitajajärjestelmässä. Vastuuhoitajana toimiva sairaanhoitaja työskentelee työvuorokohtaisesti työnjohtajana. Järjestelmää kehittäessä johtajuutta, valtaa ja vastuuta on jaettu työtehtävien muutoksen myötä. Tämä on samalla tuonut muutoksia vastuuhoitajarooliin, jota kuvataan käsitteellä roolitoimijuus. Tutkimus on toteutettu laadullisilla tutkimusmenetelmillä. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostuu 16 vastuuhoitajajärjestelmän parissa työskentele…

Educational Application Design Process Experiences : Case Perioperative Nursing

2014

From an educational point of view, the only relevant basis for the design of an educational application is the learning objectives of the content area. In the development process of an educational application, there are also other people involved besides educational experts. This paper describes a project which primarily aims at developing an application for the needs of enhancing perioperative nursing skills’. Besides application development, the project included research about the process. The research task was to discover how the real – not only the formal – objectives could work as the starting point for the construction of an educational game-like application. This paper presents the s…

The habilitation nursing of children with developmental disabilities—Beyond traditional nursing practices and principles?

2014

Research-based descriptions of the contents of the habilitation nursing of children with developmental disabilities are lacking. In addition, the purpose was to outline the principles that directed the nursing functions (which consisted of various nursing interventions). The data collection included observation, a retrospective think-aloud method with video-taped nursing situations, the nursing records, and an open-ended questionnaire. Integration of an in-home monitoring system into home care nurses' workflow: A case study.

2019

Abstract Background The healthcare system faces a major challenge in caring for an increasingly ageing population as this task requires more resources than are currently available. Adopting monitoring technologies could enable more efficient care practices and support ageing in place. Objectives To investigate how the use of an in-home motion monitoring system can be integrated into home care nurses’ workflows and to uncover the factors behind system adoption. Design A single case study adopting a qualitative approach. Setting A home care unit serving older adults living in independent living residences within an apartment complex. Investigating the links between resilience, perceived HRM practices, and retirement intentions

2019

Purpose Human resource management (HRM) scholars’ interest in older employees’ resilience has only recently started to emerge. Little is known about how resilience and perceived HRM are linked to different retirement intentions. Drawing on the conservation of resources and social exchange theories, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the links between perceived HRM practices, resilience and retirement intentions. Additionally, the paper examines the possible mediating role of resilience in the relationship between perceived HRM practices and retirement intentions. Design/methodology/approach In 2016, a cross-sectional study was conducted among older (50+) nursing professionals work…
