Three-dimensional hysterosonography for the study of endometrial tumors: comparison with conventional transvaginal sonography, hysterosalpingography,…

1997

We studied endometrial thickness and homogeneity in 36 patients with postmenopausal bleeding using three-dimensional ultrasound following distention of the uterine cavity with a sterile saline solution (3D-SHSG). Results with 3D-SHSG were compared with findings using transvaginal sonography, transvaginal sonohysterography, transvaginal color Doppler, and hysteroscopy. Sixteen patients (including three on tamoxifen) were undergoing hormone therapy at the time when they were studied. Visualization of the uterine cavity and of endometrial thickness was better with 3D-SHSG than with any of the other ultrasound techniques. The results with 3D-SHSG corresponded to the findings observed with hyste…

Improved femoral neck BMD in older Finnish women between 2002 and 2010.

2013

Abstract Purpose The number of hip fractures among Finns over 50-years of age rose constantly between 1970 and 1997, but since then, there has been a nationwide decline in incidence of hip fractures. One possible explanation, although not the only one, for the declining fracture rates, could be improved bone mineral density (BMD). The aim of this study was to evaluate differences in femoral neck BMD between older Finnish women born about a decade apart. Methods We compared the baseline data of two population-based samples of home-dwelling 70–80-year-old women who were initially recruited in exercise intervention studies ( N  = 216 in Cohort1, and N  = 389 in Cohort 2). Femoral neck BMD was …

EMAS position statement: Predictors of premature and early natural menopause.

2019

Simoncini, Tommaso/0000-0002-2971-0079; Chung, Hsin-Fang/0000-0003-3261-5942; Mishra, Gita/0000-0001-9610-5904 WOS:000468709100014 PubMed ID: 31027683 Introduction: While the associations of genetic, reproductive and environmental factors with the timing of natural menopause have been extensively investigated, few epidemiological studies have specifically examined their association with premature (< 40 years) or early natural menopause (40-45 years). Aim: The aim of this position statement is to provide evidence on the predictors of premature and early natural menopause, as well as recommendations for the management of premature and early menopause and future research. Management of Osteoporosis in Postmenopausal Women

2019

Osteoporosis is a noncommunicable disease with increasing incidence at a global level. The burden of the disease particularly concerns women. A drastic and rapid decline in the circulating levels of estrogens, a key regulator of bone metabolism, is responsible for the increase in bone loss after menopause. Cells with a role in bone metabolism, osteoblasts, osteoclasts and osteocytes, have estrogen receptors. The fall in estrogens increases the differentiation of osteoclasts from progenitors in the bone marrow. A significant expansion in the resorption process follows.

Influence of the sex reassignment on the subjective well-being of transgender men – results of the pilot study and discussion about future research

2017

This pilot study was aimed at verifying scientific reports on the good functioning of transgender people. On this basis, it was attempted to compare the subjective well-being of transgender men with heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual cisgender men. This study tried to verify the role of hormone therapy and surgical gender correction (sex reassignment surgery) as potential predictors of the subjective well-being of transgender men. Cisgender heterosexual men showed significantly higher subjective well-being in relation to members of the LGBTQ community (transgender men, homosexual and bisexual cisgender men). Sexual orientation of transgender men did not differentiate their subjective wel…

Wpływ korekty płci na poczucie jakości życia mężczyzn transpłciowych – wyniki badania pilotażowego oraz przyczynek do dalszych badań

2017

Cispłciowi mężczyźni heteroseksualni wykazywali się istotnie wyższym poczuciem jakości życia w stosunku do członków społeczności LGBTQ (mężczyzn transpłciowych, cispłciowych męż - czyzn homoseksualnych i biseksualnych). Orientacja seksualna mężczyzn transpłciowych…
