Validation of a questionnaire for young women to assess knowledge, attitudes and behaviors towards cervical screening and vaccination against HPV in …

2014

Background: Despite knowledge about HPV may be an important determinant for vaccine acceptance and uptake, only few studies have assessed HPV-related knowledge in young females. The aim of this study was to assess the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, in Italian women ≥18 years old, as a tool to examine knowledge, attitudes and behaviors towards screening and vaccination against HPV and reliable source of information. Methods: The questionnaire was administered to 30 girls in anonymous, voluntary and self -administered form with close-ended type of questions, except for the socio-demographic characteristics. It was composed in 3 sections for a total of 69 items. Participation i…

Experimental System Identification and Black Box Modeling of Hydraulic Directional Control Valve

2015

Directional control valves play a large role in most hydraulic systems. When modeling the hydraulic systems, it is important that both the steady state and dynamic characteristics of the valves are modeled correctly to reproduce the dynamic characteristics of the entire system. In this paper, a proportional valve (Brevini HPV 41) is investigated to identify its dynamic and steady state characteristics. The steady state characteristics are identified by experimental flow curves. The dynamics are determined through frequency response analysis and identified using several transfer functions. The paper also presents a simulation model of the valve describing both steady state and dynamic charac…

Combined treatment of epidermodysplasia verruciformis with etretinate and α-interferon*

1992

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is an uncommon cutaneous disease in which a focal and genetically determined immunological impairment is associated with chronic human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. In sun-exposed areas, when an oncogenic HPV type is the agent, skin cancer may occur. The treatment of EV is difficult and often unsatisfactory; etretinate has been reported in some instances as effective in improving lesions. We report a typical case of EV with pityriasis versicolor-like lesions on the trunk and many flat, erythematous wart-like lesions on the face, dorsal areas of the hands and legs. We performed a treatment with etretinate (1 mg/kg/day for 6 weeks) and subsequently with…

Female genital schistosomiasis and reproductive tract infections. A cross-sectional study in rural adolescents in South Africa

2019

ABSTRACTBackground and objectivesThe aim of the current study was to establish the relative prevalences of Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We hypothesised that due to the use of syndromic management for STIs it is possible that FGS is being misdiagnosed and mismanaged as an STI. We therefore wanted to examine the relationship between FGS and the individual STIs in schistosomiasis endemic areas.MethodsBetween 2011 and 2013, a cross-sectional study was performed in 32 randomly selected secondary schools in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where each school had at least 300 pupils. In a research clinic, FGS diagnosis, STI testing, and face-to-…

Sperm DNA integrity and human papillomavirus (HPV) infections: a controversy that could be resolved by a new molecular approach

2020

Study question: The aim was to determine if HPVs affect spermatozoa DNA integrity. To resolve the discrepancy regarding the association between HPV infections and sperm DNA damage. Summary answer: To elucidate if HPV impairs DNA integrity, we suggest to investigate HPV DNA positivity in spermatozoa by a differential lysis procedure before TUNEL assay.

Microbiota e HPV nel carcinoma orale

2021
