Three-dimensional crystallization of the light-harvesting complex from Mantoniella squamata (Prasinophyceae) requires an adequate purification proced…
1995
Abstract We present a new purification procedure for the light-harvesting complex of Mantoniella squamata whereupon three-dimensional crystallization succeeded. Previous purification methods were based on density centrifugations as the only separating principle. We have extended this preparation procedure by applying anion-exchange and molecular-sieve chromatography techniques. Purity and stability of the complex were proved by denaturing and non-denaturing polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis, and spectroscopic measurements. With respect to contaminating lipids the purified pigment-protein complex was examined by thin-layer chromatography and the aggregation and/or oligomeric states were inv…

Genome architecture enables local adaptation of Atlantic cod despite high connectivity
2017
Adaptation to local conditions is a fundamental process in evolution; however, mechanisms maintaining local adaptation despite high gene flow are still poorly understood. Marine ecosystems provide a wide array of diverse habitats that frequently promote ecological adaptation even in species characterized by strong levels of gene flow. As one example, populations of the marine fish Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) are highly connected due to immense dispersal capabilities but nevertheless show local adaptation in several key traits. By combining population genomic analyses based on 12K single-nucleotide polymorphisms with larval dispersal patterns inferred using a biophysical ocean model, we show…
Hard cap espresso extraction and liquid chromatography determination of bioactive compounds in vegetables and spices
2017
Abstract A new analytical procedure, based on liquid chromatography with diode array and fluorescence detection, has been proposed for the determination of bioactive compounds in vegetables and spices after hard cap espresso extraction. This novel extraction system has been tested for the determination of capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin from fresh chilli and sweet pepper, piperine from ground pepper, curcumin from turmeric and curry, and myristicin from nutmeg. Extraction efficiency was evaluated by using acetonitrile:water and ethanol:water mixtures. The proposed method allows the extraction of samples with 100 mL of 60% (v/v) ethanol in water. The obtained limits of quantification for the …
Coloration mechanism of electrochromic Na x WO3 thin films
2019
International audience; The coloration mechanism of tungsten trioxide (WO3) upon insertion of alkali ions is still under debate after several decades of research. This Letter provides new insights into the reversible insertion and coloration mechanisms of Na+ ions in WO3 thin films sputter-deposited on ITO/glass substrates. A unique model based on a constrained spline approach was developed and applied to draw out ε1+iε2 from spectroscopic ellipsometry data from 0.6 to 4.8 eV whatever the state of the electrochromic active layer, i.e. as-deposited, colored or bleached. It is shown that electrochemically intercalated sodium-tungsten trioxide, NaxWO3 (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.35), exhibits an absorption…
New fine structures resolved at the ELNES Ti-L2,3 edge spectra of anatase and rutile: comparison between experiment and calculation.
2010
Abstract Anatase and rutile Ti- L 2,3 edge spectra were measured in electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) using a transmission electron microscope (TEM) coupled to a CEOS Cs-probe corrector, an omega-type monochromator and an in-column omega-type energy filter fully corrected for 2nd order aberrations. Thanks to the high energy resolution, high electron probe current and high stability achieved under this instrumental configuration, new fine structures, never reported before, were resolved at the L 3 band of both rutile and anatase. The data suggest that new peaks also exist in the L 2 e g band. The experimental spectra are compared with multichannel multiple scattering (MMS) calculation…
