On the Complexity and Wholeness of Human Beings: Husserlian Perspectives
2017
At the beginning of Being and Time, Heidegger rejects Husserl’s classical phenomenology on three grounds: he claims that Husserlian phenomenology is impaired by indeterminate concepts, by naïve personalism, and by obscurities in its account of individuation. The paper studies the validity of this early critique by explicating Husserl’s discourse on human persons as bodily-spiritual beings and by clarifying his account of the principles by which such beings can be individuated. The paper offers three types of considerations. After a summary of Heidegger’s early critique of Husserl, the second section of the paper distinguishes between two dimensions of Husserl’s discourse on human persons. I…
DNA Fingerprinting as a Tool of Paternity Testing in Germany
1991
Soon after the discovery of the ABO blood groups by Landsteiner their forensic application was suggested by Max Richter at the 74. Versammlung Deutscher Naturforscher und Arzte at Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) in 1902 [1], Landsteiner’s Nobel lecture “Uber individuelle Unterschiede des menschlichen Blutes” in 1930 [2] provided a landmark on the path towards the discovery of so-called hypervariable minisatellite regions of human DNA by Alec Jeffreys in 1985 [3]. Since the individual patterns of any human being seemed to be unique it is well understood that this achievement was immediately welcomed with great enthusiasm by the scientific community and the public opinion. Soon thereafter, however, s…
Kant’s Idea of History
2016
Is there a philosophy of history in Kant’s work? What does “philosophy of history” mean in relation to Kant? In what sense can one use this expression, especially in relation to the Kantian concept of philosophy? The essay tries to answer these questions examining the relationship between biology, progress and political order in Kant's rational reading of human events.
2013
The article analyses critically three dififerent models about human being: the homo faber, or tecnocratic humanism, dominant along Modernity from Descartes and Bacon to Marx; the homo natura and the homo ludens , which represent antihumanist models of the late Modernity. In front of these models we can find a fourth one: the homo patiens or excentric humanism, openned to God, others and nature. Only this model gives a consistent foundation to the universality of the rights because it identifies the concepts of human being and person.

BOUNDARIES OF AGENT AND EXPERIENCER IN LATVIANSummaryThe deep sentence structure is reflected in the surface sentence structure. There is no doubt that the actor is an important participant in the semantics of the sentence, and the patient is important in the transitive verb argument structure. Other participant roles form periphery of the situation. The article deals with the issue of boundaries between agent and experiencer roles. In Latvian, both agent and experiencer employ the same means of expression – both participants syntactically can be expressed by the subject. The aim of this article is to clarify whether it is easy to divide these participant roles and what criteria help to make…
Σύμβολου: An Attempt toward the early Origins, Part 1
2013
International audience; This is the first of a two-part paper in which I would like to propose some possible hypotheses on the early origins of symbolic function, which is the most typical feature of human being, based on disavowal mechanism. Briefly recalling the main stages of the history of symbolism, it will be possible to lay out many of its theories within the framework that we wish to outline with this work, this first part of which is mainly concerned with the basic psychodynamic notion of disavowal and its possible applications, above all in regard to fetishism.
The Finland of Poetry Revisited Four Snapshots
2015
A poem is a condensation of signs and a method characteristic of every human being for investigating a shared reality. Accordingly, a human being also lives and exists poetically in this common world. This being so, the primacy of the mother tongue refers to the lived language, which mediates the possibility for us of carving out our own unique imprint on existence. Similarly, the native land signifies a milieu where a human being takes on a reality amidst other objects, surrounded by them and as one of them. Poetry creates harmony between past and present. peerReviewed
