Aims: In this study, we aimed to investigate what competencies are needed for mental health promotion in health sector practice in Finland. Methods: A qualitative study was carried out to seek the views of mental health professionals regarding mental health promotion-related competencies. The data were collected via two focus groups and a questionnaire survey of professionals working in the health sector in Finland. The focus groups consisted of a total of 13 professionals. A healthcare environment consists of a number of people who perform different roles, and at differing levels of seniority on the workplace hierarchy. How these people communicate with each other is based on many individual factors, including language, culture, ethnicity, and in what way they perceive their own and others’ seniority. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin kyselylomakeaineistolla suomalaisten ammattikorkeakoulu- ja yliopisto-opiskelijoiden ammatillista identiteettiä sosiaali-, hoito- ja terveysalalla. Tavoitteena oli selvittää ammatillisen identiteetin rakenteen piirteitä. Samalla tutkittiin aikaisempien kokemusten ja tulevaisuuden suunnitelmien vaikutusta ammatillisen identiteetin projektissa tutkimusajankohtana.
