Hydration Status, Executive Function, and Response to Orthostatism After a 118-km Mountain Race: Are They Interrelated?
2016
Martínez-Navarro, I, Chiva-Bartoll, O, Hernando, B, Collado, E, Porcar, V, and Hernando, C. Hydration status, executive function and response to orthostatism after a 118-km mountain race: are they interrelated? J Strength Cond Res 32(2): 441-449, 2018-The present study aimed to explore whether blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) variability (HRV) responsiveness to orthostatism, jointly with executive function (EF) performance, was diminished after an ultra-endurance mountain race. Besides, we wanted to assess whether hydration status was related to either performance or the abovementioned alterations. Fifty recreational ultra-endurance athletes participating in the Penyagolosa Trails CS…
Patients' and relatives' perceptions about intravenous and subcutaneous hydration.
2005
Hydration during palliative care is a controversial topic. Most of the arguments are based on anedoctal reports that have not been substantiated with scientific data. Given that the choice is problematic from a clinical perspective, preferences of patients and family should dictate whether intravenous fluids are administered. The aim of this study was to evaluate patient and family perceptions about hydration and two modes of providing hydration. Fifty-four consecutive patients admitted to an acute pain relief and palliative care unit who required hydration completed a questionnaire regarding their perceptions on hydration and modes of hydration. Similarly, the principal family carer was ch…
Improved (photo)catalytic propene hydration in a gas/solid system by using heteropolyacid/oxide composites: Electron paramagnetic resonance, acidity,…
2017
Binary materials composed of the oxides SiO2, TiO2 and N-doped TiO2 and the Keggin heteropolyacid (PW12) were prepared and physicochemically characterized. They were used as catalysts and photocatalysts for the hydration of propene to 2-propanol. The characterization of the samples, particularly the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy results and the acidity properties, were useful to explain the key role played by the PW12 in the composite materials in the thermal and photoassisted catalytic processes. The simultaneous pres-ence of heat and UV light improved the activity of PW12 in the thermal process, and the binary materials showed better (photo)catalytic activities than t…
Decoding vibrational states of Concanavalin A amyloid fibrils.
2015
International audience; Amyloid and amyloid-like fibrils are a general class of protein aggregates and represent a central topic in life sciences for their involvement in several neurodegenerative disorders and their unique mechanical and supramolecular morphological properties. Both their biological role and their physical properties, including their high mechanical stability and thermodynamic inertia, are related to the structural arrangement of proteins in the aggregates at molecular level. Significant variations may exist in the supramolecular organization of the commonly termed cross-β structure that constitutes the amyloid core. In this context, a fine knowledge of the structural deta…
Role of octreotide, scopolamine butylbromide, and hydration in symptom control of patients with inoperable bowel obstruction and nasogastric tubes: A…
2000
Bowel obstruction may be an inoperable complication in patients with end-stage cancer. Scopolamine butylbromide (SB) and octreotide (OCT) have been successfully used with the aim of reducing gastrointestinal (GI) secretions to avoid placement of a nasogastric tube (NGT); however, there have been no comparative studies concerning the efficacy of these drugs. Furthermore, there is little information about the role played by parenteral hydration in symptom control of these patients. In a prospective trial that involved all 17 inoperable bowel-obstructed patients presenting to our services with a decompressive NGT, patients were randomized to OCT 0.3 mg/day or SB 60 mg/day for 3 days through a …
Selective chromo-fluorogenic detection of trivalent cations in aqueous environments using a dehydration reaction
2016
[EN] Trivalent cations (Al3+, Fe3+, Cr3+, As3+, In3+ and Ga3+) induced a dehydration reaction of a chemodosimeter in water that is coupled with colour and emission changes.
Trienediolates of hexadienoic acids in synthesis. Addition to unsaturated ketones. A convergent approach to the synthesis of retinoic acids
1995
Abstract The regioselectivity of the addition of the lithium trienediolates generated from hexa-2,4dienoic acids 1 and 2 or the dihydropyran-2ones 4 and 5 to unsaturated ketones 6 is studied. Equilibration conditions favour reaction of the trienediolates through their ω carbon, and the ketones according to 1,2- and 1,4-additions. β-Ionone 6a and the aryl-butenone 6b lead to the 1,2-ω-adducts 8 , which undergo a facile acid catalyzed dehydration to retmoic acids 11 . On reaction with the unsaturated ketone 6b or with the aryl ketones 21 , the trimethyldihydropyran-2one S leads to γ-adducts derived from deprotonation of the chain methyl mbstituent along with the 1,4-ω-adducts.

Comparison between catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted propene hydration by using supported heteropolyacid
2012
Abstract Hybrid materials have been prepared by impregnation of the heteropolyacid H 3 PW 12 O 40 on commercial TiO 2 . The polyoxometalates (POM) amount deposited was 15, 30, 50 and 70% with respect to the weight of the TiO 2 support. Moreover two samples containing a POM amount of 15, and 50% with respect to the weight of SiO 2 were also prepared for the sake of comparison. All prepared samples were efficient catalysts for the hydration of propene to 2-propanol in gas–solid regime at atmospheric pressure and at temperatures ranging between 50 and 85 °C. The study carried out on the hybrid TiO 2 based materials evidenced that, as far as the catalytic activity is concerned, exists an optimu…
Exponential growth phase cells of the osmotolerant yeast Debaryomyces hansenii are extremely resistant to dehydration stress
2001
Abstract The osmotolerant yeast Debaryomyces hansenii is highly resistant to dehydration stress and this tolerance was more pronounced for cells taken from the exponential growth phase than from the stationary phase. Growth of D. hansenii in medium containing 10% (w v −1 ) NaCl, resulted in an additional increase in cellular resistance to dehydration, which was most marked for stationary phase cells. It is expected that further investigations of the mechanisms behind this exceptional dehydrational tolerance will reveal new approaches for improvement of the quality of dry yeast.
