Bacterial community analysis of a gas-phase biotrickling filter for biogas mimics desulfurization through the rRNA approach

Abstract The bacterial composition of a lab-scale biotrickling filter (BTF) treating high loads of H 2 S was investigated by the rRNA approach. Two 16S rRNA gene clone libraries were established 42 and 189 d after reactor startup, while fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) with DNA probes was performed throughout 260 d of reactor operation. Diversity, community structure and metamorphosis were studied from reactor startup to fully-established pseudo-steady state operation at near neutral pH and at an inlet H 2 S concentration of 2000 ppmv (load of 55.6 g H 2 S m −3  h −1 ). Azide and sulfonylazide functionalized fluorophores for the selective and sensitive detection of hydrogen sulfide

[EN] Three fluorescent probes (1–3) for the selective and sensitive detection of hydrogen sulfide have been synthesized and characterized. Probe 1 is a coumarin derivative functionalized with an azide moiety whereas 2 contain the azide reactive group into a naphthalene fluorophore backbone. Probe 3 is composed also by a naphthalene fluorophore but, in this case, functionalized with a sulfonylazide reactive moiety. Probes 1 and 3 are non-fluorescent whereas 2 is weakly emissive in HEPES (10 mM, pH 7.4)–DMSO 99:1 (v/v). Iodide-Photocatalyzed Reduction of Carbon Dioxide to Formic Acid with Thiols and Hydrogen Sulfide.

The photolysis of iodide anions promotes the reaction of carbon dioxide with hydrogen sulfide or thiols to quantitatively yield formic acid and sulfur or disulfides. The reaction proceeds in acetonitrile and aqueous solutions, at atmospheric pressure and room temperature by irradiation using a low-pressure mercury lamp. This transition-metal-free photocatalytic process for CO2 capture coupled with H2 S removal may have been relevant as a prebiotic carbon dioxide fixation.

A Chemosensor Bearing Sulfonyl Azide Moieties for Selective Chromo-Fluorogenic Hydrogen Sulfide Recognition in Aqueous Media and in Living Cells

A simple chemodosimeter based on a sulfonyl azide dye (1-Az), which displayed a highly selective response toward hydrogen sulfide anion in mixed aqueous media, was synthesised and characterised. Addition of hydrogen sulfide to acetonitrile/HEPES 1:1 solutions of 1-Az induced a clear colour change from red-orange to yellow, which was easily detected by the naked eye, and by an enhancement in the emission intensity. Other common anions, thiol-containing biomolecules and oxidants did not induce any noticeable colour or fluorescence modulation in the probe. Study of the effect of H2S, MeSH and DMS on the sensory profile of wine model solutions by Rate-All-That-Apply (RATA)

The effect of hydrogen sulfide (HS), methanethiol (MeSH) and dimethyl sulfide (DMS) on the odor properties of three wine models-WM- (young white, young red and oaked red wines) was studied. Wine models were built by mixing a pool of common wine volatile and non-volatile compounds and further spiked with eight different combinations of the three sulfur compounds present at two levels (level 0: 0 μg L and level 1: 40 μg L of HS, 12 μg L of MeSH; 55 μg L of DMS). Hydrogen trapping: Synergetic effects of inorganic additives with cobalt Sulfide absorbers and reactivity of cobalt polysulfide

International audience; The biphasic product CoS2 + Co(OH)(2) obtained by oxidation of cobalt sulfide is known to trap hydrogen at room temperature and low pressure according to a balanced reduction equation. Adding various inorganic compounds to this original absorber induces their reduction by hydrogen in the same conditions at a significant rate: (i) excess cobalt hydroxide is reduced to metallic cobalt; (ii) nitrate ions are reduced to ammonia; (iii) sulfur and sodium thiosulfate are reduced to H2S or NaHS and Na2S, respectively. Without a hydrogen absorber these inorganic compounds are not reduced by H-2, suggesting synergetic effects involving H-2 and the hydrogen absorber. Amorphous …

In this work, the yeast ecology associated with the spontaneous fermentation of Grillo cultivar grapes from 10 vineyards was analyzed from grape harvest till complete consumption of must sugars. The microbiological investigation started with the plate count onto two culture media to distinguish total yeasts (TY) and presumptive Saccharomyces (PS). Abstract Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a potential endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) and adventitium- or adipocyte-derived relaxing factor (ADRF) which vasorelaxant action is mediated by potassium channels. H2S could also play an important role in the pathophysiology of diabetic cardiovascular complications.
