Effect of calcium hydroxide dressing on microleakage of composite restorations in endodontically treated teeth subsequent to bleaching

Objective: This study evaluates the effect of calcium hydroxide dressing on microleakage of composite restorations following non-vital bleaching. Methods: A total of 45 sound extracted human maxillary central incisors underwent endodontic treatment. The teeth were randomly divided into three groups (n=15). In group 1, access cavities were restored with composite. In group 2, the teeth underwent a bleaching procedure for one week before being restored with composite. In group 3, following a bleaching procedure, calcium hydroxide paste was placed in the pulp chamber for one week. The teeth were then restored with composite. Hybrid magnetic materials based on layered double hydroxides: from the chemistry towards the applications

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are the leitmotiv of this dissertation. Contradicting the assertion that “any past was better”, LDHs have been continuously revisited from the middle of the twentieth century, and represent an excellent example of the never-ending beauty of Chemistry. New synthetic perspectives are giving a new impetus to LDH chemistry, which among hybrid materials, are finding their heyday. This is resulting in novel materials and also paving the way for new fundamental and practical insights. Pyrolysis-GC-MS and CuO-oxidation-HPLC in the characterization of HMMs from sediments and surface waters downstream of a pulp mill

Abstract High molecular mass fractions of lignin and humic compounds in sediments and waters downstream of a pulp mill were characterized applying pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results were compared to those obtained using reversed phase HPLC on the cupric oxide oxidation products. The chromatographic data of both pyrolysis and cupric oxide oxidation were also subjected to the principal component analysis (PCA). Passive Transport of Ionic Drugs through Membranes with pH-Dependent Fixed Charges

We have studied both theoretically and experimentally the passive transport of ionic drugs through membranes with pH-dependent fixed charge. The system considered constitutes a simplified model for pH-controlled drug delivery through membranes of biochemical and pharmaceutical interest. The theoretical approach employed is based on the Nernst-Planck flux equations and all of the species present in the system (the neutral or ionic drug and the hydrogen and hydroxide ions) have been taken into account together with a Langmuir-type isotherm for the adsorption of the ionic drug onto the membrane surface. Effect of a filler on the dielectric properties of an epoxy resin

The effect of aluminum hydroxide upon the dielectric properties of an epoxy resin has been studied in a wide frequency and temperature range. An interfacial polarization effect, known as the Maxwell–Wagner–Sillars polarization is evidenced for the filled resin, which shows a higher permittivity, a higher dielectric loss, and a β transition with a larger relaxation time. The glass transition temperature is, on the contrary, mostly unaffected by the presence of the filler.

Initial Surface Film on Magnesium Metal. A Characterization by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Photocurrent Spectroscopy (PCS)

Abstract A detailed investigation of the initial film grown on mechanically polished Mg electrodes has been carried out by ex situ X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and in situ Photocurrent Spectroscopy (PCS), allowing to reach a detailed picture of the passive layer structure. The XPS data show that the films formed soon after mechanical treatment and immersion in aqueous electrolyte have a bilayer structure, consisting of an ultra-thin MgO inner layer (∼2.5 nm) and a Mg(OH) 2 external layer. A Simple Model for the Photoelectrochemical Behavior of Corrosion Layers with Variable Hydration Degree

Abstract With the goal of quantitatively applying photocurrent spectroscopy to corrosion studies, the photoelectrochemical behavior of layered passive films having a decreasing hydration/hydroxylation degree, from the solution interface toward the metal interface, has been modeled. The model makes use of the correlations between optical gap and electronegativity of the constituents previously proposed for surface oxides and hydroxides. A photoelectrochemical investigation of conversion coatings on Mg substrates

Abstract The structure, morphology and composition of conversion coatings grown in stannate bath on pure Mg were studied using potential–time, polarization curves, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and photocurrent spectroscopy. The coating is manly constituted by crystalline magnesium–tin hydroxide, whose morphology and distribution depends on the conversion bath composition and temperature. Recent advances in photocurrent spectroscopy of passive films

Abstract The quantitative application of photocurrent spectroscopy (PCS) for the in-situ determination of the composition of passive films and corrosion layers is reviewed in the light of recent theoretical advances, that have allowed to relate the measured optical gaps to the Pauling electronegativities of the film components. The correlations derived are tested versus recent experimental results regarding mixed oxides, anhydrous passive films on metallic alloys and hydroxide layers.
