Formation Of Hypernuclei In Evaporation And Fission Processes
2016
There are excellent opportunities to produce excited heavy hyper residues in relativistic hadron and peripheral heavy-ion collisions. We investigate the disintegration of such residues into hyper nuclei via evaporation of baryons and light clusters and their fission. Previously these processes were well known for normal nuclei as the decay channels at low excitation energies. We have generalized these models for the case of hyper-matter. In this way we make extension of nuclear reaction studies at low temperature into the strange sector. We demonstrate how the new decay channels can be integrated in the whole disintegration process. Their importance for mass and isotope distributions of pro…
Low lying S=-1 excited baryons and chiral symmetry
2001
The s-wave meson-baryon interaction in the $S = -1$ sector is studied by means of coupled-channels, using the lowest-order chiral Lagrangian and the N/D method to implement unitarity. The loops are regularized using dimensional renormalization. In addition to the previously studied $\Lambda (1405)$, employing this chiral approach leads to the dynamical generation of two more s-wave hyperon resonances, the $\Lambda(1670)$ and $\Sigma(1620)$ states. We make comparisons with experimental data and look for poles in the complex plane obtaining the couplings of the resonances to the different final states. This allows us to identify the $\Lambda (1405)$ and the $\Lambda(1670)$ resonances with $\b…
First Observation of an Attractive Interaction between a Proton and a Cascade Baryon
2019

Further distribution of this work must maintain attribution to the author(s) and the published article’s title, journal citation, and DOI. This Letter presents the first experimental observation of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a multistrange baryon (hyperon) Ξ−. The result is extracted from two-particle correlations of combined p−Ξ−⊕¯p−¯Ξ+ pairs measured in p−Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV at the LHC with ALICE. The measured correlation function is compared with the prediction obtained assuming only an attractive Coulomb interaction and a stand…
First observation and branching fraction and decay parameter measurements of the weak radiative decay Xi0 -> Lambda e+ e-
2007
The weak radiative decay Xi0 --> Lambda e+e- has been detected for the first time. We find 412 candidates in the signal region, with an estimated background of 15 +/- 5 events. We determine the branching fraction B(Xi0 --> Lambda e+e-) = [7.6 +/- 0.4(stat) +/- 0.4(syst) +/- 0.2(norm)] x 10^{-6}, consistent with an internal bremsstrahlung process, and the decay asymmetry parameter alpha_{XiLambdaee} = -0.8 +/- 0.2, consistent with that of Xi0 --> Lambda gamma. The charge conjugate reaction Xi0_bar --> Lambda_bar e+e- has also been observed.
Hyperon polarization asymmetry: Polarized beams andΩ−production
1985
The parton recombination model relates polarizations in inclusive baryon fragmentation to those of the underlying constituent subprocesses. Measurements of spin-spin correlations in experiments using polarized beams will provide detailed information on the quark spin dynamics in the color-confining recombination process. We present a large number of predictions for the octet baryon\ensuremath{\rightarrow}octet baryon transitions. We discuss the production of polarized ${\ensuremath{\Omega}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$'s, required to measure the magnetic moment of the ${\ensuremath{\Omega}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$. We also review the data from unpolarized beam experiments, and find very sa…

Discussion on triangle singularities in the Λb→J/ψK−p reaction
2016
We have analyzed the singularities of a triangle loop integral in detail and derived a formula for an easy evaluation of the triangle singularity on the physical boundary. It is applied to the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$ process via ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}^{*}$-charmonium-proton intermediate states. Although the evaluation of absolute rates is not possible, we identify the ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c1}$ and the $\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)$ as the relatively most relevant states among all possible charmonia up to the $\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)$. The $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}(1890){\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c1}p$ loop is ver…
Form factors in the 'point form' of relativistic quantum mechanics : single and two-particle currents
2004
Electromagnetic and Lorentz-scalar form factors are calculated for a bound system of two spin-less particles exchanging a zero-mass scalar particle. Different approaches are considered including solutions of a Bethe-Salpeter equation, a ``point form'' approach to relativistic quantum mechanics and a non-relativistic one. The comparison of the Bethe-Salpeter results, which play the role of an ``experiment'' here, with the ones obtained in ``point form'' in single-particle approximation, evidences sizable discrepancies, pointing to large contributions from two-body currents in the latter approach. These ones are constructed using two constraints: ensuring current conservation and reproducing …
The RICH counter in the CERN hyperon beam experiment
1992
Abstract The hyperon beam experiment WA89 at the CERN-SPS uses a ring imaging Cherenkov counter (RICH) for identification of secondaries from ∑ − N reactions. Cherenkov photons are generated in a 5 m long radiator volume filled with nitrogen at atmospheric pressure and detected in drift chambers. The drift chambers cover an active surface of 1.6 × 0.75 m 2 , with a maximum drift path of 41 cm. Photoelectrons are counted on 1280 wires with a pitch of 2.54 mm, equipped with multihit TDCs. The counting gas is ethane saturated with TMAE at 30°C. The counter was operated in two beam periods in 1990 and 1991. The spatial resolution of the chambers is better than 2 mm and under normal running cond…
Production of Θ+ hypernuclei with the (K+,π+) reaction
2005
Abstract We present results on the production of bound states of Θ + in nuclei using the ( K + , π + ) reaction. By taking into account the states obtained within a wide range of strength of the Θ + nucleus optical potential, plus the possibility to replace different nucleons of the nucleus, we obtain an excitation spectra with clearly differentiated peaks. The magnitude of the calculated cross sections is well within reachable range.
