Short range correlations in the weak decay of Lambda hypernuclei.
1995
The differences found in the relativistic and nonrelativistic methods used in the literature to account for short range nuclear correlations in the decay of \ensuremath{\Lambda} hypernuclei are analyzed. By means of a schematic microscopic model for the origin of correlations, the appropriate method to include them in nuclear processes is derived and is found to be the same one used in the nonrelativistic approach. The differences do not stem from relativistic effects but from the improper implementation of the correlations in the relativistic approach, which leads to several pathologies as shown in the paper. General formulas are given to evaluate the nonmesonic decay width of finite hyper…
Electroproduction of hyperons
1997
Abstract We present some estimates for the reaction ep → e ′ Σ + . At small scattering angles, the differential cross section is completely determined by the experimental data for the radiative decay Σ + → pγ . For kinematical values typical of the proposed parity experiment at MAMI, we find a suppression factor of about 5 · 10 −15 as compared to elastic electron scattering. On the basis of conservative models for the transition form factors, this ratio might increase by about a factor of 20 at backward angles. Even higher values could be expected if the presently unknown convection currents should turn out to be large. Due to the parity violation involved in this process, we also expect a …
Dynamical generation of hyperon resonances
2003
In this talk we report on how, using a chiral unitary approach for the meson--baryon interactions, two octets of $J^{\pi}=1/2^-$ baryon states and a singlet are generated dynamically, resulting in the case of strangeness $S=-1$ in two poles of the scattering matrix close to the nominal $\Lambda(1405)$ resonance. We suggest experiments which could show evidence for the existence of these states.
Exploring the NΛ–NΣ coupled system with high precision correlation techniques at the LHC
2022
The interaction of Λ and Σ hyperons (Y) with nucleons (N) is strongly influenced by the coupled-channel dynamics. Due to the small mass difference of the NΛ and NΣ systems, the coupling strength of the NΣ↔NΛ processes is non-negligible and constitutes a crucial element in the determination of the NΛ interaction. In this letter we present the most precise measurements on the interaction of pΛ pairs, from zero relative momentum up to the opening of the NΣ channel. The correlation function in the relative momentum space for pΛ⊕p¯¯¯Λ¯¯¯¯ pairs measured in high-multiplicity triggered pp collisions at s√ = 13 TeV at the LHC is reported. The opening of the inelastic NΣ channels is visible in the e…
Study of doubly strange systems using stored antiprotons
2016
Bound nuclear systems with two units of strangeness are still poorly known despite their importance for many strong interaction phenomena. Stored antiprotons beams in the GeV range represent an unparalleled factory for various hyperon-antihyperon pairs. Their outstanding large production probability in antiproton collisions will open the floodgates for a series of new studies of systems which contain two or even more units of strangeness at the PANDA experiment at FAIR. For the first time, high resolution gamma-spectroscopy of doubly strange Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei will be performed, thus complementing measurements of ground state decays of Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei at J-PARC or possible …
Measurement of hadron form factors at BESIII
2018
The BESIII experiment, operated at the BEPCII e+e- collider in Beijing, has acquired large data sets at center-of-mass energies between 2.0 GeV and 4.6 GeV. One of the key aspects of the physics program of the BESIII collaboration is to test the understanding of QCD at intermediate energies. Applying different experimental techniques, form factors of hadrons are measured. Among these are the pion form factor, as an important input to the (g - 2)μ puzzle, and the electro-magnetic form factors of nucleons and hyperons in the time-like regime. An overview of the recent results and some ongoing studies at BESIII is provided.

Performance studies of the P¯ANDA planar GEM-tracking detector in physics simulations
2018
Abstract The P ¯ ANDA experiment will be installed at the future facility for antiproton and ion research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany, to study events from the annihilation of protons and antiprotons. The P ¯ ANDA detectors can cover a wide physics program about baryon spectroscopy and nucleon structure as well as the study of hadrons and hypernuclear physics including the study of excited hyperon states. One very specific feature of most hyperon ground states is the long decay length of several centimeters in the forward direction. The central tracking detectors of the P ¯ ANDA setup are not sufficiently optimized for these long decay lengths. Therefore, using a set of the planar GEM-trac…
Production of excited double hypernuclei via Fermi breakup of excited strange systems
2011
Precise spectroscopy of multi-strange hypernuclei provides a unique chance to explore the hyperon-hyperon interaction. In the present work we explore the production of excited states in double hypernuclei following the micro-canonical break-up of an initially excited double hypernucleus which is created by the absorption and conversion of a stopped $\Xi^{-}$ hyperon. Rather independent on the spectrum of possible excited states in the produced double hypernuclei the formation of excited states dominates in our model. For different initial target nuclei which absorb the $\Xi^-$, different double hypernuclei nuclei dominate. Thus the ability to assign the various observable $\gamma$-transitio…
