Joint Subcarrier and Phase Shifts Optimization for RIS-aided Localization-Communication System
2022
Joint localization and communication systems have drawn significant attention due to their high resource utilization. In this paper, we consider a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided simultaneously localization and communication system. We first determine the sum squared position error bound (SPEB) as the localization accuracy metric for the presented localization-communication system. Then, a joint RIS discrete phase shifts design and subcarrier assignment problem is formulated to minimize the SPEB while guaranteeing each user’s achievable data rate requirement. For the presented non-convex mixed-integer problem, we propose an iterative algorithm to obtain a suboptimal solution …

Automatic surrogate modelling technique selection based on features of optimization problems
2019
A typical scenario when solving industrial single or multiobjective optimization problems is that no explicit formulation of the problem is available. Instead, a dataset containing vectors of decision variables together with their objective function value(s) is given and a surrogate model (or metamodel) is build from the data and used for optimization and decision-making. This data-driven optimization process strongly depends on the ability of the surrogate model to predict the objective value of decision variables not present in the original dataset. Therefore, the choice of surrogate modelling technique is crucial. While many surrogate modelling techniques have been discussed in the liter…
Les outils d'intelligence territoriale pour les acteurs de terrain à Seraing: entre appropriation des méthodes et acquisition de compétences
2005
Asbl Optim@ leads an experience of participative observation in Seraing since 1998. The complexity of the problems met by the population and the professional division into sectors justified this participative approach. This one concerns the economic, social and human global nature of the territory. It leans on a wide partnership of local actors: professionals, inhabitants and decision-makers. It uses at this end the method of territorial intelligence CATALYSE created by the research team ThéMA-MTI and developed with numerous members of the REIT. The results obtained in terms of interdisciplinary dialogue between inhabitants, professionals and decision-makers; allow identifying axes about th…
Agri-food Clusters as an Opportunity for Development of Border Rural Areas
2016
Cooperation within the framework of euroregions of the European Union is an answer to challenges posed by global economy and not merely an instrument to reduce negative external effects which exist in peripheral areas. In the long-term perspective, cooperation should serve to: ensure stability of natural capital, dissemination of knowledge and innovation as well as break the convention of simple industrialization thanks to the feedback of network economy. The sole meeting point of the three processes is a territory, the delineation of which should be executed by social actors capable of identifying resources that are available on it. The authors of the article present the justification of t…
Territorial Intelligence and Governance.
2007
International audience; As with European experiments, in various regions in France, territorial intelligence projects have been initiated since 2003. (see the regions of Lower Normandy, Lorraine, Réunion Island, the Aquitaine region, etc.).The objective of these is to gather and exploit information which is not confined to particular sectors and the collective processing of which can contribute to durable development. Apart from institutions, civil society and the inhabitants of the territory, it is observed that companies and in particular small and medium sized enterprises are natural partners who show interest in such initiatives. Both the different economic chains and the participating …
Cognitive Mimetics and Human Digital Twins : Towards Holistic AI Design
2023
AI is replacing and supporting people in many intelligence-requiring tasks. Therefore, it is essential to consider the conceptual grounds of designing future technical artefacts and technologies for practical use. We are developing two new practical design tools: cognitive mimetics and human digital twins for AI designers. Cognitive mimetics analyses human information processing to be mimicked by intelligent technologies. Human digital twins provide a tool for modelling what people do based on the results of cognitive mimetics. Together they provide a new way of designing intelligent technology in individual tasks and industrial contexts. nonPeerReviewed

On the spectrum of semi-classical Witten-Laplacians and Schrödinger operators in large dimension
2005
We investigate the low-lying spectrum of Witten–Laplacians on forms of arbitrary degree in the semi-classical limit and uniformly in the space dimension. We show that under suitable assumptions implying that the phase function has a unique local minimum one obtains a number of clusters of discrete eigenvalues at the bottom of the spectrum. Moreover, we are able to count the number of eigenvalues in each cluster. We apply our results to certain sequences of Schrodinger operators having strictly convex potentials and show that some well-known results of semi-classical analysis hold also uniformly in the dimension.
Complex objects classified by morphological shape analysis and elliptical Fourier descriptors
2005
This chapter deals with the classification of complex objects by morphological shape analysis and elliptical Fourier descriptors. An unsupervised method has been proposed to identify components with specific shapes by a simple edge detector and to classify them via the description of their contours. A particular application has been arranged in order to evaluate the goodness of this approach when discriminating between normal and pathological human megakaryocytes. Alterations in these cells can occur in many pathological processes and in such cases the pattern, size and shape of the cytoplasm and/or of the nucleus are extremely varied.
