Bandcrossings in 171Os

1999

The nucleus Os-171 has been populated using the reaction Sn-116(Ni-58,2pn). Four new bands are identified, and the previously known bands are extended in spin, to a maximum of 53/2 (h) over bar. On ...

Shape dynamics in neutron-rich Kr isotopes: Coulomb excitation of 92Kr, 94Kr and 96Kr

2013

We report on the study of excited states in 92,94,96Kr populated via projectile Coulomb excitation at safe energies. The radioactive ion beams at energies of 2.85 MeV/u were delivered by the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN and impinged on self-supporting 194,196Pt targets. The emitted γ -rays were detected by the Miniball detector-array. A detailed description of the experimental techniques used for extracting diagonal and transitional matrix elements and of the theoretical framework is given. The present experiment reveals the moderate evolution of the collective structure in the considered neutron-rich Kr isotopic chain, which is supported by the interacting boson model combined with the self…

Yrast superdeformed band in59Cu

2000

High-spin states in Cu-59 were populated using the fusion-evaporation reactions Si-28+ Ca-40 at a beam energy of 125 MeV and Ar-36+Si-28 at a beam energy of 143 MeV. The Gammasphere array in conjunction with ancillary detector systems allowed for the identification of a superdeformed rotational band in Cu-59, which was firmly linked to low-spin yrast states. Using directional correlations of oriented states, a spin-parity assignment of I-pi=25/2(+) to the band head was possible. The average quadrupole moment of the band is measured to be Q(t)=(2.24+/-0.40) e b. The characteristics of the band are compared to neighboring nuclei and predictions of different mean-field theories.

Proton-hole states in theN=30neutron-rich isotopeK49

2010

Excited states in the N=30 neutron-rich isotope {sup 49}K have been studied using multinucleon transfer reactions with thin targets and the PRISMA-CLARA spectrometer combined with thick-target {gamma}-coincidence data from Gammasphere. The d{sub 3/2} proton-hole state is located 92 keV above the s{sub 1/2} ground state, and the proton-particle f{sub 7/2} state is suggested at 2104 keV. Three other levels are established as involving the coupling to 2{sup +} of two neutrons above the N=28 shell. The measured or estimated lifetimes served to reinforce the interpretation of the observed level structure, which is found to be in satisfactory agreement with shell-model calculations.

Quasielastic proton knockout from 16O.

1994

The spectral function of the $^{16}\mathrm{O}$(e,e'p${)}^{15}$N reaction has been measured in quasielastic parallel kinematics. Momentum distributions are extracted for transitions to several discrete states, with emphasis on the low-lying positive parity states of $^{15}\mathrm{N}$. Spectroscopic factors and bound state wave functions are deduced from a DWIA analysis employing five different optical potentials. Coupled channels effects are investigated for the first four states of $^{15}\mathrm{N}$ and are found to be minimal. The spectroscopic results of the 1/${2}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ ground state and the first 3/${2}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ excited state indicate a 28%\ifmmode\…

Five-valence-protonN=82isotone137Cs

1999

Yrast excitations in the N=82 isotone {sup 137}Cs have been identified for the first time in thick-target {gamma}-ray coincidence measurements for the system {sup 232}Th+{sup 136}Xe using the Gammasphere array. The {sup 137}Cs nuclei were produced in deep inelastic one-proton-transfer reactions. By-products of the main investigation were two well-developed rotational bands which were identified in heavy reaction partner products complementary to {sup 137}Cs and are tentatively assigned to the little studied nucleus {sup 231}Ac. There was no difficulty in placing the 11 observed {sup 137}Cs transitions in a yrast level scheme extending to an I{sup {pi}}=(31/2{sup {minus}}) level at 5494 keV.…

Coexistence of collective and quasiparticle structures in 106Sn and 108Sn

1997

New levels in the neutron deficient nuclei 106Sn and 108Sn have been investigated by using the NORDBALL detector array combined with charged particle and neutron detectors. The excited structures are discussed in terms of collectivity and the shell model. The excitations are interpreted to be based on d52, g72 and h112 both for protons and neutrons and g92 for protons. The systematical behaviour of the specific states in the Sn isotopes is studied in the mass range of A = 106–118.

Systematic study of low-spin states in even Cd nuclei.

1992

Low-lying low-spin collective states in even $^{106\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}112}\mathrm{Cd}$ and $^{116}\mathrm{Cd}$ were investigated using in-beam and off-beam \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray and conversion-electron spectroscopy. New spin assignments and decay branching ratios for the levels in $^{106}\mathrm{Cd}$, $^{108}\mathrm{Cd}$, $^{110}\mathrm{Cd}$, and $^{112}\mathrm{Cd}$ were obtained. The present results essentially complement the level systematics from $^{106}\mathrm{Cd}$ to $^{120}\mathrm{Cd}$. From the new data, it is inferred that two sets of low-lying ${0}^{+}$ states having different excitation characteristics cross between $^{114}\mathrm{Cd}$ and $^{116}\mathrm{Cd}$. No correspondi…

Shape isomerism and spectroscopy ofHg177

2003

High spin states in the $^{177}\mathrm{Hg}$ nucleus were populated by the $^{144}\mathrm{Sm}(^{36}\mathrm{Ar},3\mathrm{n})^{177}\mathrm{Hg}$ reaction at a beam energy of $178\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\text{MeV}$. The emitted prompt $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays were detected with the Jurosphere $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectrometer, while the recoiling nuclei were identified using an active stopper at the focal plane of the gas-filled separator RITU. A Recoil-Beta Tagging Study of N = Z nucleus [sup 66]As

2011

A Recoil‐Beta Tagging (RBT) experiment was recently performed at the accelerator laboratory at the University of Jyvaskyla in order to identify T = 1 excited states in the medium‐heavy N = Z = 33 nucleus 66As. The fusion‐evaporation reaction 28Si(40Ca,pn)66As was employed at a beam energy of 75 MeV. The experiment was carried out utilising the JUROGAM II γ‐ray spectrometer in conjunction with the gas‐filled recoil separator RITU and the GREAT focal plane spectrometer system. The half‐lives and ordering of the two known isomeric states in 66As have been determined. In addition, several new prompt γ‐ray transitions from excited states both bypassing and decaying to the isomeric states in 66As…
