Element-specific ferromagnetic resonance in epitaxial Heusler spin valve systems
2011
Time-resolved x-ray magnetic circular dichroism was used to investigate epitaxial MgO(100)/Co2Cr0.6Fe0.4Al and MgO(100)/Co2Cr0.6Fe0.4Al/Cr/CoFe films. The precessional motion of the individual sublattice magnetization, excited by continuous microwave excitation in the range 2–10 GHz, was detected by tuning the x-ray photon energy to the L 3 absorption edges of Cr, Fe and Co. The relative phase angle of the sublattice magnetization's response is smaller than the detection limit of 2°. A weakly antiferromagnetically coupled CoFe layer causes an increase in the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth consisting of a constant offset and a component linearly increasing with frequency that we partly at…
Influence of Metal Dilution on the Light‐Induced Spin Transition in Two 1D Chain Compounds: [Fe x Zn 1– x (btzp) 3 ](BF 4 ) 2 and [Fe x Zn 1– x (endi…
2008
The thermal and light-induced spin transitions in [FexZn1–x(btzp)3](BF4)2 and [FexZn1–x(endi)3](BF4)2 {btzp = 1,2-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)propane; endi = 1,2-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)ethane} chain compounds have been investigated by magnetic susceptibility, photomagnetism and diffuse reflectivity measurements. These compounds display a thermal spin transition and the Light-Induced Excited Spin State Trapping (LIESST) effect at low temperature. For each compound, the thermal spin transition temperature, T1/2, and the relaxation temperature of the photo-induced high-spin state, T(LIESST), have been systematically determined. A decrease in T1/2 induces an increase in T(LIESST). The results are discussed an…
Very Long-Lived Photogenerated High-Spin Phase of a Multistable Spin-Crossover Molecular Material
2018
The spin-crossover compound [Fe(n-Bu-im)3(tren)](PF6)2 shows an unusual long relaxation time of 20 h after light-induced excited spin state trapping when irradiating at 80 K. This is more than 40 times longer than when irradiating at 10 K. Optical absorption spectroscopy, magnetometry, and X-ray diffraction using synchrotron radiation were used to characterize and explain the different relaxation behaviors of this compound after irradiation below and above 70 K. Rearrangement of the butyl chains of the ligands occurring during the relaxation after irradiation above 70 K is thought to be responsible for the unusually long relaxation time at this temperature.
Light induced excited spin state trapping in the binuclear spin crossover compound [Fe(bpym)(NCS)2]2(bpym) exhibiting a high-spin ground state
2008
Abstract A photo-magnetic effect is evidenced using near-infrared light in the binuclear complex [Fe(bpym)(NCS) 2 ] 2 (bpym). This compound has a 5 T 2g – 5 T 2g ground state and exhibits no thermal spin crossover – in contrast to the analogous [Fe(bpym)(NCSe) 2 ] 2 (bpym). The estimated photo-conversion ratio is ca. 30%. By means of magnetic susceptibility measurements as well as Raman and infrared absorption spectroscopies, the nature of the photo-induced phase was established as the 5 T 2g – 1 A 1g state, which means that only one iron center is converted to low-spin. The photo-induced state was completely converted back to the ground state either by visible light excitation or by heatin…
A family of enneanuclear iron(II) single-molecule magnets.
2008
Complexes [Fe 9 (X) 2 -(02CMe)8{(2-py) 2 CO 2 } 4 ] (X - = OH (1), N 3 - (2), and NCO- (3)) have been prepared by a route previously employed for the synthesis of analogous Co 9 and Ni 9 complexes, involving hydroxide substitution by pseudohalides (N 3 - , NCO-). As indicated by DC magnetic susceptibility measurements, this substitution induced higher ferromagnetic couplings in complexes 2 and 3, leading to higher ground spin states compared to that of 1. Variable-field experiments have shown that the ground state is not well isolated from excited states, as a result of which it cannot be unambiguously determined. AC susceptometry has revealed out-of-phase signals, which suggests that these…
Does the solid-liquid crystal phase transition provoke the spin-state change in spin-crossover metallomesogens?
2008
Three types of interplay/synergy between spin-crossover (SCO) and liquid crystalline (LC) phase transitions can be predicted: (i) systems with coupled phase transitions, where the structural changes associated to the Cr LC phase transition drives the spin-state transition, (ii) systems where both transitions coexist in the same temperature region but are not coupled, and (iii) systems with uncoupled phase transitions. Here we present a new family of Fe(II) metallomesogens based on the ligand tris[3-aza-4-((5-C(n))(6-R)(2-pyridyl))but-3-enyl]amine, with C(n) = hexyloxy, dodecyloxy, hexadecyloxy, octadecyloxy, eicosyloxy, R = hydrogen or methyl (C(n)-trenH or C(n)-trenMe), which affords examp…
Pressure-Induced High Spin State in [Fe(btr)2(NCS)2]·H2O (btr = 4,4′-bis-1,2,4-triazole)
2000
Application of hydrostatic pressure (≤ 10.5 kbar) on the two-dimensional spin transition compound [Fe(btr)2(NCS)2]·H2O (btr = 4,4‘-bis-1,2,4-triazole) results in an unexpected stabilization of the HS state. On release of the pressure, the HS state is found to be partially trapped. After thermal relaxation of the metastable HS state obtained by the LIESST effect (light-induced excited spin state trapping), a pure LS state is obtained in contrast to the pressure experiments. This different behavior supports a structural phase transition as the likely basis of the pressure-induced HS state.
Effect of metal dilution on the light-induced spin transition in [FexZn1-x(phen)2(NCS)2] (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline)
2008
International audience; The thermal and light-induced spin transitions in [FexZn1-x(phen)2(NCS)2] (phen = 1,10-phenantholine) have been investigated by magnetic susceptibility, photomagnetism and diffuse reflectivity measurements. These complexes display a thermal spin transition and undergo the light-induced excited spin state trapping (LIESST) effect at low temperatures. For each compound, the thermal spin transition temperature, T1/2, and the relaxation temperature of the photo-induced high-spin state, T(LIESST), have been systematically determined. It appears that T1/2 decreases with the metal dilution while T(LIESST) remains unchanged. This behaviour is discussed on the basis of the ki…
Modulation of Nuclearity in Cu II −Mn II Complexes of a N 2 O 2 Donor Ligand Depending upon Carboxylate Anions: Structures, Magnetic Properties and C…
2020
Three new hetero-metallic copper(II)-manganese(II) complexes, [(CuL)2 Mn3 (C6 H5 CO2 )6 ] (1), [(CuL)2 Mn(CH3 CO2 )2 ] (2), and {[(CuL)2 Mn(C6 H5 CH2 CO2 )2 ] ⋅ 2CH3 CN} (3), have been synthesized using [CuL] as ''metalloligand'' (where H2 L=N,N'-bis(2-hydroxynaphthyl-methylidene)-1,3-propanediamine). Single-crystal structural analyses show an almost linear penta-nuclear structure for complex 1 where a square planar [CuL] unit is connected to each of the two terminal MnII ions of a linear, centrosymmetric [Mn3 (benzoate)6 ] unit through the double phenoxido bridges. Both complexes 2 and 3 possess a linear tri-nuclear structure where two terminal square-pyramidal [CuL] units are bonded to th…
Mössbauer investigation of the photoexcited spin states and crystal structure analysis of the spin-crossover dinuclear complex [{Fe(bt)(NCS)(2)}(2)bp…
2006
The crystal structure of the complex [{Fe(bt)(NCS)(2)}(2)bpym] (1) (bt=2,2'-bithiazoline, bpym=2,2'-bipyrimidine) has been solved at 293, 240, 175 and 30 K. At all four temperatures the crystal remains in the P space group with a=8.7601(17), b=9.450(2), c=12.089(3) A, alpha=72.77(2), beta=79.150(19), gamma=66.392(18) degrees , V=873.1(4) Angstrom(3) (data for 293 K structure). The structure consists of centrosymmetric dinuclear units in which each iron(II) atom is coordinated by two NCS(-) ions in the cis position and two nitrogen atoms of the bridging bpym ligand, with the remaining positions occupied by the peripheral bt ligand. The iron atom is in a severely distorted octahedral FeN(6) e…
