We report [Cu(P^P)(N^N)][PF6] complexes with P^P = bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl)ether (POP) or 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9-dimethylxanthene (xantphos) and N^N = 6-methyl-2,2′-bipyridine (Mebpy), 6-ethyl-2,2′-bipyridine (Etbpy), 6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine (Me2bpy) or 6-phenyl-2,2′-bipyridine (Phbpy). Abstract The experimental determination of atomic levels and the first ionization potential of the heaviest elements ( Z ⩾ 100 ) is key to challenge theoretical predictions and to reveal changes in the atomic shell structure. These elements are only artificially produced in complete-fusion evaporation reactions at on-line facilities such as the GSI in Darmstadt at a rate of, at most, a few atoms per second. Application of WGM Resonances to the Measurement of the Temperature Increment of Ho and Ho-Yb Doped Optical Fibers Pumped at 1125 and 975 nm

Optical fiber characterization using whispering gallery mode resonances of the fiber itself has been demonstrated to be a powerful technique. In this work, we exploit the thermal sensitivity of whispering gallery mode resonances to characterize the pump-induced temperature increment in holmium doped and holmium-ytterbium codoped optical fibers. The technique relies on the measurement of the resonances’ wavelength shift due to temperature variation as a function of the pump power. Holmium doped fibers were pumped to the second excited level 5I6 of the Ho3+ ion using a laser diode at 1125 nm and ytterbium-holmium codoped fibers to the 2F5/2 level of the Yb3+ ion by a laser diode at 975 nm. Sulfur Dioxide Oxidation Catalyzed by Photosensitized Ytterbium Diphthalocyanine

Oxidation of SO2 into SO3 was found effectively catalyzed by photosensitized ytterbium diphthalocyanine, YbPc2 (Pc = phthalocyanine ligand, C32H16N8) when performed in air-saturated dimethylformamide (DMF) solution at 20 °C. The process follows according to a multi-step complex mechanism involving chemical induction as its driving force. Excitation energy of the sandwich molecular system in YbPc2 is used to promote the reaction by creating a reactive intermediate form of the ytterbium complex hosting up to eight SO2 molecules. The conversion of SO2 proved complete.

A transient collisionally excited X-ray laser has been put into operation using the front end of the PHELIX laser system as a pump laser. Strong lasing at 22 nm has been observed in nickel-like zirconium.

Experimental and numerical enhancement of Vibrational Resonance in a neural circuit

International audience; A neural circuit exactly ruled by the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations is excited by a biharmonic signal of frequencies f and F with respective amplitudes A and B. The magnitude spectrum of the circuit response is estimated at the low frequency driving f and presents a resonant behaviour versus the amplitude B of the high frequency. For the first time, it is shown experimentally that this Vibrational Resonance effect is much more pronounced when the two frequencies are multiple. This novel enhancement is also confirmed by numerical predictions. Applications of this nonlinear effect to the detection of weak stimuli are finally discussed.
