Internal conversion from excited electronic states of 229Th ions

The process of internal conversion from excited electronic states is investigated theoretically for the case of the vacuum-ultraviolet nuclear transition of 229 Th . Due to the very low transition energy, the 229 Th nucleus offers the unique possibility to open the otherwise forbidden internal conversion nuclear decay channel for thorium ions via optical laser excitation of the electronic shell. We show that this feature can be exploited to investigate the isomeric state properties via observation of internal conversion from excited electronic configurations of Th + and Th 2 + ions. Induction of body weight loss through RNAi-knockdown of APOBEC1 gene expression in transgenic rabbits

In the search of new strategies to fight against obesity, we targeted a gene pathway involved in energy uptake. We have thus investigated the APOB mRNA editing protein (APOBEC1) gene pathway that is involved in fat absorption in the intestine. The APOB gene encodes two proteins, APOB100 and APOB48, via the editing of a single nucleotide in the APOB mRNA by the APOBEC1 enzyme. The APOB48 protein is mandatory for the synthesis of chylomicrons by intestinal cells to transport dietary lipids and cholesterol. Protonation of the Biliverdin IXα Chromophore in the Red and Far-Red Photoactive States of Bacteriophytochrome

The tetrapyrrole chromophore biliverdin IXα (BV) in the bacteriophytochrome from Deinococcus radiodurans (DrBphP) is usually assumed to be fully protonated, but this assumption has not been systematically validated by experiments or extensive computations. Here, we use force field molecular dynamics simulations and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics calculations with density functional theory and XMCQDPT2 methods to investigate the effect of the five most probable protonation forms of BV on structural stability, binding pocket interactions, and absorption spectra in the two photochromic states of DrBphP. W okresie II wojny światowej piłsudczycy, powszechnie obwiniani za klęskę wrześniową w 1939 r., znaleźli się w politycznej izolacji. Od początku marca 1942 r. piłsudczycy w Wielkiej Brytanii wydawali powielany biuletyn „Listy z Londynu”. Pojedynczy egzemplarz czasopisma liczył zazwyczaj od czterech do dziesięciu stron gęsto zapisanego maszynopisu w formacie A4. Powołanie własnego organu prasowego było sporym sukcesem. Piłsudc-zycy, choć zepchnięci na margines życia uchodźczego, mogli w ten sposób prowadzić ograniczoną akcję propagandowo‑informacyjną, przedstawiać założenia programowe środowiska oraz prezentować swoje poglądy na sprawy polskie.
