Elektrooptische Emissionsuntersuchungen, III.
Stark level crossing and optical-rf double resonance in NaK D 1 Π
1997
We report here (Lambda) -doubling splitting and permanent electric dipole moment d p measurements for a number of vibrotational levels of NaK D 1 II state. Two different methods, which are not Doppler limited, were used. Stark effect induced level crossing was registered as fluorescence polarization changes with external electric field, which allowed us to obtain, from one fit, the values of electric dipole moment and (Lambda) -doubling splitting (Delta) ef between e, f substates of an individual rotational state. Another method consisted in obtaining the ratio (Delta) ef /d p from electric field dependence of the intensity of forbidden line appeared in fluorescence as a result of e- f Star…
Spectral and electrooptical absorption and emission studies on internally hydrogen bonded benzoxazole `double' derivatives: 2,5-bis(benzoxazolyl)hydr…
1999
Abstract Ground and excited state dipole moments and polarizabilities of 2,5-bis(benzoxazolyl)hydroquinone (BBHQ) and 3,6-bis(benzoxazolyl)pyrocatechol (BBPC) are determined by means of electrooptical absorption and emission measurements. BBHQ is found to exhibit a small, while BBPC a large increase of the static polarizability in the Franck–Condon (FC) excited singlet state. The change of the dipole moments upon excitation to the FC state is zero within experimental error. However, both molecules show dipole moments in the fluorescent states of their phototautomers, of about 5 D, the major component being parallel to the long molecular axis. The experimental and theoretical results strongl…
Magic numbers, excitation levels, and other properties of small neutral 4He clusters (Nor = 50).
2006
The ground-state energies and the radial and pair distribution functions of neutral 4He clusters are systematically calculated by the diffusion Monte Carlo method in steps of one 4He atom from 3 to 50 atoms. In addition the chemical potential and the low-lying excitation levels of each cluster are determined with high precision. These calculations reveal that the "magic numbers" observed in experimental 4He cluster size distributions, measured for free jet gas expansions by nondestructive matter-wave diffraction, are not caused by enhanced stabilities. Instead they are explained in terms of an enhanced growth due to sharp peaks in the equilibrium concentrations in the early part of the expa…

Interplay of spin-dependent delocalization and magnetic anisotropy in the ground and excited states of [Gd2@C78]− and [Gd2@C80]−
2017
The magnetic properties and electronic structure of the ground and excited states of two recently characterized endohedral metallo-fullerenes, [Gd2@C78]- (1) and [Gd2@C80]- (2), have been studied by theoretical methods. The systems can be considered as [Gd2]5+ dimers encapsulated in a fullerene cage with the fifteen unpaired electrons ferromagnetically coupled into an S = 15/2 high-spin configuration in the ground state. The microscopic mechanisms governing the Gd-Gd interactions leading to the ferromagnetic ground state are examined by a combination of density functional and ab initio calculations and the full energy spectrum of the ground and lowest excited states is constructed by means …

Triplet stabilization for enhanced drug photorelease from sunscreen-based photocages
2021
[EN] Recently, sunscreen-based drug photocages have been introduced to provide UV protection to photoactive drugs, thus increasing their photosafety. Here, combined experimental and theoretical studies performed on a photocage based on the commercial UVA filter avobenzone (AB) and on the photosensitizing non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug ketoprofen (KP) are presented unveiling the photophysical processes responsible for the light-triggered release. Particular attention is paid to solvent stabilization of the drug and UV filter excited states, respectively, which leads to a switching between the triplet excited state energies of the AB and KP units. Most notably, we show that the stabiliz…
Substituent-induced coupling of the two lowest excited singlet states of 2-methoxy-derivatives of 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)- and 4-(N-methylamino)benzoni…
2002
The title compounds both exhibit strong features of interaction of their two lowest excited states, but only one of them, the dimethylamino derivative, exhibits dual fluorescence. This is a direct indication that state interaction and dual fluorescence are not directly related.
An efficient excitation scheme for resonance ionization of tin in a laser ion source
1992
An efficient three-colour, three-step resonant excitation/ionization scheme has been found for tin that leads from the 5p23P2 level of the ground-state multiplet via two excited atomic levels (λ1 = 317.51 nm and λ2 = 811.40 nm) to an autoionizing state 9s3P2(λ3 = 823.49 nm) at 59375.9 cm−1. This excitation path permits the saturation of all transitions with the limited power available from a copper vapour laser pumped dye laser system (Esat ≈ 1.5 mJcm2 for λ3). The high repetition rate of such a laser system is essential for a highly efficient laser ion source.
