Tre dei sei ospedali medievali di Sciacca furono fondati da esponenti del ceto mercantile e nobiliare catalano e valenzano trapiantato in Sicilia. Questo dato permette di mostrare il ruolo svolto dalle famiglie iberiche a Sciacca. Attraverso lo studio dei testamenti, in cui oltre ai legati pro anima, veniva disposta la fondazione di chiese, monasteri e strutture assistenziali, il saggio ricostruisce le espressioni della sensibilità religiosa e devozionale di queste famiglie, soffermandosi, in particolar modo, sull’istituzione dei tre ospedali e sulle diverse forme di carità praticate. Cycles of time in the Iberian culture: the astronomical orientation of the temple of El Tossal de Sant Miquel de Llíria

We present an archaeoastronomical study of the temple of the Iberian settlement of El Tossal de Sant Miquel de Llíria (València). We find that the major axis of the building is oriented very close to the east-west cardinal axis. The entrance of the temple is pointing towards an outstanding mountain on the eastern horizon, where the sunrise around the equinoxes takes place. On the other hand, the absence of other constructions just in front of the cultic building seems to support the inference that the astronomical relation was intentional, because it would permit the observation of the sunrise from the temple. Diferentes escalas de análisis, desde los contextos rituales hasta los patrones de asentamiento o la organización interna de los poblados, nos permiten identificar diversas etapas: los primeros objetos de hierro en la zona fueron bienes de prestigio que circularon en un marco de conexiones mediterráneas a partir de los siglos XII-XI a.C. The set of more than 225 vases with figurative decoration found in El Tossal de Sant Miquel (TSM), Lliria, with a chronology that it is fitted in the second stage of the Middle Iberian, between IIIrd century B.C. at the beginning of the IInd B. La moneda se caracteriza por ser forrada o falsa de época y por presentar un arte imitativo de Turiasu. También se ofrecen algunas reflexiones y nuevo material numismático en torno a los denarios forrados, imitativos, híbridos e incusos.
Iberian Wolf Howls: Acoustic Structure, Individual Variation, and a Comparison with North American Populations

We present a detailed description of the acoustic structure of howls emitted by Iberian wolves and a comparison with published descriptions of North American wolf howls. We recorded and analyzed 176 howls emitted by 11 wolves held in captivity in social groups of 1–5 individuals. Our sample included solo howls as well as howls included in choruses. Iberian wolf howls are long (1.1- to 12.8-s) harmonic sounds, with a mean fundamental frequency between 270 and 720 Hz. Our results revealed striking similarities between Iberian and North American wolf howls in all variables analyzed except for the number of discontinuities in the frequency of the howl, which was lower for Iberian wolves. Nomenclatural types are reported for seventeen taxa belonging to Iris and six related genera, which are accepted in the forthcoming treatment of Iridaceae for Flora iberica. Among them, 13 lectotypes and one neotype are designated for the first time, and three previous typifications are briefly commented.
