Experimental Investigation on the Compressive Behaviour of Clay Brick Masonry Columns Confined by BFRP or Steel Wires

This paper presents the results of an experimental research aiming to investigate on the compressive behavior of full size clay brick masonry columns reinforced with Basalt Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (BFRCM) or with steel wires collaring. Uniaxial compressive tests were performed on eight retrofitted columns and four control specimens. Two masonry strength were considered by varying the mortar grade. Results are presented and discussed in terms of axial stress-strain relationships, failure modes and crack patterns of the specimens tested up to failure. La lamina aparecio plegada y contiene una inscripcion iberica de una sola linea en cada cara que muy probablemente configure un solo texto completo. Sus caracteristicas formales son poco comunes, siendo el paralelo mas cercano el de las laminas votivas de El Amarejo. La presencia del elemento kutuŕ, frecuente en las inscripciones votivas rupestres, tambien apuntaria a una interpretacion religiosa. Mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in chalcogenide and telluride fibers for sensor devices

This thesis reports on the progress made during my PhD concerning supercontinuum generation and its application in two types of materials: chalcogenide and tellurite glasses. Concerning the chalcogenide axis, two new arsenic-free compositions are developed: Ge20Se60Te20 and Ge20Se70Te10. Thermal and optical properties of these two glasses are studied and two types of fibers are manufactured: a step-index fiber and a suspended core fiber. The generation of supercontinuum in these two fibres, pumped by an optical parametric amplifier, gives competitive results compared to the current state of the art of supercontinuum generation in chalcogenide fibres. Carbachol-induced network oscillations in the intact cerebral cortex of the newborn rat.

In mature cortex, activation of the cholinergic system induces oscillatory network activity and facilitates synaptic plasticity. We used an in vitro preparation of the intact cerebral cortex and cortical slices of the neonatal rat to study carbachol (CCh, >or=30 micro M)-induced network oscillations during the early postnatal period. Multi-site extracellular recordings revealed CCh-induced transient beta oscillations with an average duration of 4.6 +/- 0.2 s, amplitude of 123 +/- 7.4 microV and frequency of 17.7 +/- 0.5 Hz. These oscillations propagated uniformly at 0.5-1.5 mm/s over the cortex and were reversibly blocked by tetrodotoxin (TTX) and atropine, indicating that they depended on …
Reversible stress-induced lipid body formation in fast twitch rat myofibers

We analyzed the existence of lipid bodies (LBs) in the fast twitch rat flexor digitorum brevis (FDB) myofibers and found that these structures were scarce. However, isolation procedure of the myofibers, heath shock, viral infection or the glycosylation inhibitor tunicamycin induced formation of the LBs, which were stationary structures flanking Z lines. We next infected FDB myofibers with recombinant Semliki Forest virus expressing caveolin 3-yellow fluorescent protein (cav3-YFP) since this chimeric protein was targeted to the LBs facilitating their further analysis.
