Notes on the genus Polycoccum (Ascomycota, Dacampiaceae) in Spain, with a key to the species

2003

AbstractComments on and a key to the 13 Polycoccum species known in Spain are presented, including synopses of their world distributions. Amongst these is P. rubellianae sp. nov., a lichenicolous fungus growing on thalli of Caloplaca rubelliana in eastern Spain (Valencia). It has relatively small ascomata, the lower part pale brown, and also small ascospores which are coarsely verrucose and have a thick gelatinous sheath when young. The new species is associated with a Phoma-like anamorph. The identity and systematic position of P. opulentum requires further study as the name has been applied to different species, and the occurrence of P. marmoratum in Spain is in need of confirmation. Weak decay ofΛc+for the study ofΛ(1405)andΛ(1670)

2015

We study the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{c}$ decay process to ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ and the meson-baryon final state for the analysis of $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ resonances. Considering the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, color suppression, diquark correlation, and the kinematical condition, we show that the final meson-baryon state should be in a pure $I=0$ combination, when the meson-baryon invariant mass is small. Because the $I=1$ contamination usually makes it difficult to analyze $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ resonances directly from experiments, the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{c}$ decay is an ideal process to study $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ resonances.…

Workplace democracy and republican freedom

2021

In this chapter, Keith Breen and Onni Hirvonen examine the case for democratic worker voice based on the republican ideal of freedom as non-domination. While not unconvincing, this case is primarily consequentialist in character and therefore open to significant empirical disagreement. Indeed, together with republican arguments for democratic worker voice, there are republican arguments for worker voice that reject workplace democracy, republican arguments that see state regulation plus a universal basic income (UBI) as sufficient for minimizing workplace domination, and republican arguments that focus exclusively on exit rights and are hostile to augmenting workers’ voice. Breen and Hirvon…

Splittings of Toric Ideals

2019

Let $I \subseteq R = \mathbb{K}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be a toric ideal, i.e., a binomial prime ideal. We investigate when the ideal $I$ can be "split" into the sum of two smaller toric ideals. For a general toric ideal $I$, we give a sufficient condition for this splitting in terms of the integer matrix that defines $I$. When $I = I_G$ is the toric ideal of a finite simple graph $G$, we give additional splittings of $I_G$ related to subgraphs of $G$. When there exists a splitting $I = I_1+I_2$ of the toric ideal, we show that in some cases we can describe the (multi-)graded Betti numbers of $I$ in terms of the (multi-)graded Betti numbers of $I_1$ and $I_2$.

The attitude towards boycotts: determining factors

2019

According to the theories of reasoned action and planned behavior, the precedent to any human conduct is the intention to display such conduct. People’s attitudes are one of those precedents. Our work is framed within this line of research, as it seeks to analyze and explain the main determinants of attitudes towards boycotts. Thus, we understand that consumers’ attitudes towards boycott behavior depend on three fundamental beliefs: perceived legitimacy of the behavior, ethical idealism towards such behavior, and finally, ethical relativism towards boycott behavior. We emphasize legitimacy since the relevance of legitimacy processes in the businessclient relationship lies in the validation …

Basic Notions of the Theory of Heat

2016

This chapter summarizes some basic notions of thermodynamics and defines the empirical variables which are needed for the description of thermodynamic systems in equilibrium. Empirical temperature and several scales used to measure temperature are defined. The so-called “zeroth law of thermodynamics” is formulated which says that systems which are in mutual equilibrium have the same temperature. Thermodynamic ensembles corresponding to different macroscopic boundary conditions are introduced and are illustrated by simple models such as the ideal gas. Also, entropy appears on the scene for a first time, both in its statistical and its thermodynamical interpretation. Gibb’s fundamental form i…

Static instability analysis for travelling membranes and plates interacting with axially moving ideal fluid

2010

The out-of-plane instability of a moving plate, travelling between two rollers with constant velocity, is studied, taking into account the mutual interaction between the buckled plate and the surrounding, axially flowing ideal fluid. Transverse displacement of the buckled plate (assumed cylindrical) is described by an integro-differential equation that includes the centrifugal force, the aerodynamic reaction of the external medium, the vertical projection of membrane tension, and the bending force. The aerodynamic reaction is found analytically as a functional of the displacement. To find the critical divergence velocity of the moving plate and its corresponding buckling mode, an eigenvalue…
