Rationality, experiences or identity work? Sensemaking of emotionally tense experiences of organizational sustainability

2021

Purpose Although emotional tensions related to organizational sustainability have been identified, little is known about how employees aim to resolve such situations. This study aims to explore how employees use sensemaking to resolve emotionally tense situations concerning organizational sustainability. Design/methodology/approach The authors studied a case in which, while employees attached positive emotions to organizational sustainability, external stakeholders viewed it negatively. Specifically, the study analyzed how employees used sensemaking to resolve such tense experiences and how this sensemaking eventually influenced their actions. To this end, the authors interviewed 25 employ…

Współczesna metropolia: tożsamość i formy bycia razem jej mieszkańców

2018

The following paper examines the Baumanian “forms of togethernes” in the space of the contemporary metropolis, both in the West (Europe, the USA), and the developing world (China). Zygmunt Bauman understands togetherness as a totality of interhuman actions, occurring in the city space. Paradoxically, the contemporary metropolis which often seems hostile towards traditional bourgeois urban life opens up new possibilities of mutual relations between contemporary citizens. The space in the contemporary city is neither fully artificial, nor natural, but it merges some features of both. Although its infrastructure is governed by effectiveness of molecular capitalism, it is not fully predicable i…

“All under heaven as one family” : Tianxiaist ideology and the emerging Chinese great power identity

2019

The rise of China is perhaps the most important development in world politics today. It is challenging the very foundations of the liberal international order that the Western great powers have created. Yet, as China emerges as an economic and political powerhouse with global influence, it is not at all clear what kind of a great power it will become, and what kind of a world order it sees as its ideal. Chinese official foreign policy rhetoric on the subject offers only vaguely described slogans and concepts. Another approach for studying “China’s mind” is to study China’s academic discourse on world politics and foreign relations. In this article, the academic debate around the concept of …

Student teachers and their identity construction and awareness of multilingualism: re-visiting three studies

2019

[EN] This article re-visits three studies that originally focused on beliefs about second language (L2) learning and teaching held by student teachers. The studies have been conducted in the same educational context (that is, at a Finnish university). The participants in the studies are majors or minors in English, Swedish, German, etc., and they range from first-year students to fifth-year students about to graduate as qualified L2 teachers. Data have been collected by a variety of means over the past few years (questionnaires, sentence-completion tasks, drawings), and partly longitudinally. The pools of data (verbal and visual) will be re-analysed from the perspective of identity construc…

Identity and language discourses in elf context : a case study of five Finnish university students working in an international student organization i…

2016

From agricultural to tourist production

2010

This contribution starts off from taking account of the crisis in the agricultural sector. This sector has been “trivialised” by erroneous policies and market rules. However, at present the trend is changing: “demand for environment” is increasing, as well as the attempt of taking actions and policies favouring sustainable development. At the same time, notwithstanding the different meanings attached to the concept of sustainability, a wave of revaluation of rural areas is rising: the countryside is now considered as a source of local cultural values. Its exploitation as a tourist attraction, which is progressively taking off, is to be considered in this context. Natural and cultural assets…

Tożsamość człowieka współczesnego w ostatnich wierszach Tadeusza Różewicza

2017

Zagadnienie to ilustrują liczne utwory Tadeusza Różewicza pochodzące z tomików publikowany…
