Mērķa sasniegšanai darbā tiek apskatīta gan teorētiskā literatūra par savējā un svešā jēdzienu skaidrojumiem, kā arī leksikas un semantikas jautājumiem, gan arī Ovidija trimdas iemesli un Skumjo Elēģiju raksturiezīmes.
