Does social climate influence positive eWOM? A study of heavy-users of online communities.
2018
Abstract This paper provides a deeper understanding of the role of social influences on positive eWOM behaviour (PeWOM) of heavy-users of online communities. Drawing on Social Interaction Utility Framework, Group Marketing and Social Learning Theories, we develop and test a research model integrating the interactions between the social climate of a website and Interpersonal Influences in PeWOM. 262 Spanish heavy-users of online communities were selected and the data analysed using partial least squares equation modelling. Overall, the model explains 59% of the variance of PeWOM on online communities. Findings reveal that interaction with other members of the online community (Social Presenc…
Socio Psychological Counseling: How to Manage Identities?
2013
The work presented here is a research carried out into initiatives for returning the long-term unemployed to work. A small case group study based on international expertise in social categorization and communication was conducted in France. This analysis of “long-term unemployment” was done through the consequences for relationships with work with a view to suggesting a suitable remedial approach. The recommended socio psychological counseling is based on reconstructing the professional identity of the long-term unemployed person and implementing this before the return to a supported role that should serve as a springboard towards permanent employment. The results lead to extend this method…
Keynote Paper: Data Mining Researcher, Who is Your Customer? Some Issues Inspired by the Information Systems Field
2006
Data mining as an applied research field is still causing great expectations among organizations which want to raise the utility they are getting from their huge databases and data warehouses. There exist too few success stories about organizations having managed to satisfy even some of those expectations. This situation is very similar to the one inside the information systems (IS) field, especially earlier but even currently. The recent lively debate about the identity of the IS discipline included also the analysis concerning the customers of IS research. Inspired by IS researchers' insights related to the topic, we ask the question "who is our customer?" as data mining researchers. With…
Professional Agency, Identity, and Emotions While Leaving One’s Work Organization
2015
This study investigated the enactment of professional agency in an emotionally troubled work context emerging from a conflicted relationship between the professional and the work organization. Narrative interviews with Finnish educators were utilized. The findings indicate that the enactment of agency was in part framed by the educators’ rational interpretations of the relationship between themselves and their employer, plus their work history and future prospects. However, it was simultaneously embedded with contradictory emotions, such as a sense of being undervalued, fear, and a sense of empowerment. Within this framework, multifaceted professional agency was enacted particularly via lea…
Identity configurations across love and work in emerging adults in romantic relationships
2014
Love and work constitute two life-defining identity domains for emerging adults. The present study utilized a five-dimensional identity model and examined identity configurations across these two domains, capturing the degree to which identity statuses correspond across domains. A sample of German 18–30-year-olds who were either working or studying and engaged in a romantic relationship was assessed at baseline and three years later. Six identity clusters emerged in each domain. Combining identity clusters across love and work domains, 7 identity configurations were distinguished. Whereas some configurations were characterized by strong commitments in one or both domains, other configuratio…
Immobility in appearance only: Ricoeur and identity dynamics in workplace experiences
2016
International audience; Immobility in one’s career, marked by a long period of stability in the same position, is not synonymous with the absence of identity mobility, on the contrary. This can be deduced from the information collected from 23 employees in a French association in the social sector. In this research we draw on the notions of idem, ipse and capacity developed by Ricoeur. A model of the cyclical identity dynamics in daily work experience has been developed, while contributing to the topics of identification and career choice. It also questions the impact of dominant social norms that favour professional mobility on managerial practices and deprive employees from a critical for…

Combined People Position and Compass Detection for Context-aware Service Provision
2006
A novel technique is discussed for people identification and position sensing in augmented reality by the use of two cooperating technologies. People are provided with RFID tags for localization and context definition, and then visually investigated for identity checking and compass detection. The two technologies are discussed within an implementation of a case study dealing with context aware service provision for students in a campus.
Writer identification for historical handwritten documents using a single feature extraction method
2020
International audience; With the growth of artificial intelligence techniques the problem of writer identification from historical documents has gained increased interest. It consists on knowing the identity of writers of these documents. This paper introduces our baseline system for writer identification, tested on a large dataset of latin historical manuscripts used in the ICDAR 2019 competition. The proposed system yielded the best results using Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) as a single feature extraction method, without any preprocessing stage. The system was compared against four teams who participated in the competition with different feature extraction methods: SRS-LBP, SI…
