First record of Temnosewellia minor (Platyhelminthes, Temnocephalidae) in Sicily, with a plea for a re-examination of the identity of the publicly av…
2021
Author(s): Vecchioni, Luca; Chirco, Pietro; Bazan, Giuseppe; Marrone, Federico; Arizza, Vincenzo; Arculeo, Marco | Abstract: Ectosymbiotic temnocephalan flatworms belonging to the genus Temnosewellia Damborenea and Cannon, 2001 were collected on Cherax destructor Clark, 1936 in an aquaculture farm in Sicily, Italy. This represents the first record of a temnocephalan species for the fauna of the island. Morphological and molecular identification of the collected specimens proved that they belong to the allochthonous species Temnosewellia minor Haswell, 1888, which was introduced along with crayfishes bred in aquaculture farms. The phylogenetic analyses carried out for the molecular identific…
O rozwoju polskich dialektów
2014
The article deals with a phenomenon of the evolution of dialects. With respect to traditional dialects, the new post-dialectal formations are characterized not so much by the systemic changes but rather by the functional and pragmatic ones; thus, in their defining, those phenomena should be considered. The first change that had occurred in the original phase of the creation of the Polish ethnical language, under the influence of the dominating variation (i.e., culturally supreme), was the change of the hierarchies of inflexion in the diasystem of the national language, from a horizontal organization (equivalent dialects) into hierarchical one (dominating literary language and functionally l…
European Academic Identity
2018
This chapter argues that neoliberalism, through its bureaucratically led reform frenzy, produces not only identitarian uncertainty amid a politically relatively unorganized academe but also a scientifically legitimized ambivalent discourse that confuses more than clarifies the mission of the university and research. Resistance to neoliberalism is variable. More resistance can be observed from the humanities and the social sciences, from countries in whose self-image globalization plays a modest role, from individuals operating uniquely in their national contexts while less resistance will be found from those disciplines that are linked with economic development, business, or the internation…
Presentación. Deporte e identidad nacional: articulaciones y desconexiones en contextos postnacionales
2020
This article is the presentation of the issue on "Sport and national identity" by Papeles del CEIC. The introduction highlights the historical simultaneity in the emergence of sport and the building of modern Nation-States, as well as the role of the former in the processes of building of national identities. Next, reference is made to the transformations caused by the processes of globalization and its impact in the articulation of collective identities and sport. The dossier includes a paper that analyses the way in which the social history of football can serve to think about the national identity of Brazil; two papers that explore the challenges concerning collective identity faced by a…
Integration Through Participation Introductory Notes to the Study of Administrative Integration
2002
When aiming at studying the interconnectedness of administrative systems - and in particular the integration of domestic governance systems and the institutions of the European Union - at least two variables are important to address: (i) the intensity and frequency of cross-level interaction and participation amongst the members of these systems, and (ii) the principles of organization being uppermost at both levels of governance. This article argues that in order to measure administrative integration, particular emphasis should be attached to the way these variables impact upon the organization members individually. Put more precisely, I argue that studies of administrative integration sho…

Religion and Social Integration in France
2013
On some measures, France has the most integrated (and secularised) Muslim population in Europe. For example, attitude research shows that French Muslims share values closer to those of their non-Muslim neighbours than in other European countries (Connor 2010 391). While official sources of data are limited as the French government does not collect statistics organised by religion, ethnicity or any other form of collective identity, a number of private and international surveys have been carried out. Thus, the European Values Survey (2002–6 data) shows that rates of religious observance for Muslims in France are closer to those amongst the majority population than in either Britain or the Ne…
Resocialisation program “Miriam” as a Christian subculture group in female prison
2016
The paper aims to study the similarities and differences between small or informal groups in prison subculture and re-socialization program “Miriam”, which is created as a different cultural space in female prison. The dominating norms in the small groups in prison subculture the values, artefact, leader, table culture, and a sense of space and time strengthens the convicted person's criminal identity. Under the program “Miriam”, which also has elements of prisoner small group subculture, women are offered to learn about different cultural and artistic values together with fundamental Christianity values by program leaders – well-known people from Art and Culture area. With this kind of app…
