This study is the first result of the research entitled "Mon Espace Vécu" (My Lived Space) conducted in Italy during the first lockdown of 2020 (March-June), which was imposed by the government to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. During that period, the authors collected hundreds of textual testimonies from volunteers experiencing everyday spaces during the pandemic. The reflection, conducted from the perspective of cultural geography and cultural anthropology, develops from the analysis of some of these testimonies. Specifically, this paper focuses on the forms of semantization of space and the relationship between the body, space, and dynamic identity/otherness.

In the present text, I’ll dwell upon the tensions or contradictions in the philosophy of Schopenhauer, and I’ll try to understand them instead of accusing the philosopher of irrationality or inconsequence. The first part of the text investigates Schopenhauer’s theory of knowledge under the aspects of difference and passage, and the second part investigates the liason between etchis and aesthetics searching for an answer for the question of the present identity in the determination of compassion as an expression of the knowledge of the unity of the will.

Bagging, bumping, multiview, and active learning for record linkage with empirical results on patient identity data

Record linkage or deduplication deals with the detection and deletion of duplicates in and across files. For this task, this paper introduces and evaluates two new machine-learning methods (bumping and multiview) together with bagging, a tree-based ensemble-approach. Whereas bumping represents a tree-based approach as well, multiview is based on the combination of different methods and the semi-supervised learning principle. After providing a theoretical background of the methods, initial empirical results on patient identity data are given. Using survey data from a large international oil company, this econometric study explores the perceptions ofperformance appraisal and career opportunities on one hand, and how this is dependent on variation in propertiesand characteristics of the local working environment on the other hand. Perceptions indicate that performanceand payoff are better balanced among women than among men.
