Methylation of 2-phenylamino-1,3,4-thiadiazole. A structure debated

1987

The true identity of the 4-methyl-5-phenylimino-δ2-1,3,4-thiadiazoline (A) has been demonstrated. The reactions, previously reported in the literature to give A have been repeated and the structure of the compounds obtained has been established.

SECOND-GENERATION MIGRANTS: IDENTIFICATION PROBLEMS

2022

The expression “second-generation” is particularly complex for several reasons. First of all, because of the link with the term “generation,” the use of the adjective “second,” and the meanings attributed to it by those so defined. Moreover, the conceptual category refers to different situations, each with different issues that are difficult to compare. The condition of the second generation or of the set of second-generation migrants appears ambiguous because it oscillates between forms of alienation and forms of belonging, between situations of marginality and situations of activism and protagonism. Therefore, the expression “second-generation” often appears reductive for a number of reas…

Radical Rings with Soluble Adjoint Groups

2002

Abstract An associative ring R , not necessarily with an identity, is called radical if it coincides with its Jacobson radical, which means that the set of all elements of R forms a group denoted by R ∘ under the circle operation r  ∘  s  =  r  +  s  +  rs on R . It is proved that every radical ring R whose adjoint group R ∘ is soluble must be Lie-soluble. Moreover, if the commutator factor group of R ∘ has finite torsion-free rank, then R is locally nilpotent.

The Meaning of Redundancy for Opera Choristers - an investigation of musical identity in the context of job loss

2009

This study looks at the impact of job loss for seven professional opera choristers. The individual aspects of such change are not always addressed by traditional methodologies. Motivated by these concerns, this study takes an idiographic approach using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). IPA is concerned with the subjective meanings that people ascribe to experiences, but also recognises the active role of the researcher in gaining access to that window of experience. Three main themes emerged from the data analysis but, for the purpose of this presentation, only one theme will be discussed which is ‘Issues of Identity’. This theme looks at the differing levels of importance ass…

Recognition, Work, Treatment

2017

The article I am going to propose is a reflection on the theme of recognition in working and social contexts, and focuses on problems and troubles people cope with in this historical moment. This is a period during which reciprocity and recognition relationships involving our education and work career seem to have no more value, because the world of work now focuses on involving people in production and does not care about involved subjects' life plans. I also wish to point out risks and sufferance affecting subjects who perceive with always greater precision that they are more and more often oppressed by labor and mind exploitation, rather than considered human resources with a working com…

Riflessività e narrazione autobiografica per una cittadinanza digitale.

2019

Within nowadays information and knowledge society, training paths are exposed to changes due to technological development. These technological hints offer a plurality of communicative tools that endlessly extend the possibility of narrating, talking about oneself, telling oneself and being recognized. In this regard, the present paper deals with Digital Storytelling, with images, music, narration and voice woven together, offering new tools to revisit the narration, intertwining multimedia, interactivity and the web, with traditional practices. All this leads us to consider digital storytelling as a sort of modern version of the ancient art of storytelling (Rule, 2010). The educational chal…

‘That is Why I Gave In to Age My Competitive Ability, but Not My Soul!’ A Spiritual Journey in Endurance Running

2012

In this article, we explore the spiritual dimensions of endurance running. Utilizing existential psychology as our theoretical framework, we approach spirituality as a broad concept encompassing both religious and humanistic worldviews. Through the first author's reflexive narrative and a discourse analysis of a Finnish runner's magazine, Juoksija, this study aimed to gain a deeper understanding of how distance runners negotiate dominant discourses on sport and religion in the process of making running existentially meaningful to them. The research results suggest that spiritual aspects of running underlie, but are rarely given voice in, the performance discourse that is dominant in Finnish…

Lope and the Creation of Contemporary Heroes: «La nueva victoria de don Gonzalo de Córdoba» y «La nueva victoria del marqués de Santa Cruz»

2013

Lope defended the usefulness of history presented on stage, that is, theatre’s function of preserving and creating a collective memory. In the case of La nueva victoria de don Gonzalo and La nueva victoria del marqués de Santa Cruz, this playwright dramatized military events that took place immediately before the composition of these plays. In this article i will analyze the fundamental traits of those texts in relation to Lope’s desire to please his patrons and, at the same time, to participate in the making of a Spanish national identity, which intensified during the first years of king Philip IV’s reign through different media, among them painting and theatre. This paper ends reflecting …

A Joint Reading of Positional and Relational Goods

2012

Both relational and positional goods are based upon an idea of joint consumption – though with opposite signs. Indeed, in both cases, individuals’ consumption choices take into account not only the individuals themselves, but others, as well. Given that relational goods provide a form of identity to their consumers, we show that a certain degree of positionality emerges within the consumption of relational goods. Analogously, except in a two-agent context, each positional good also has a relational component. What emerges is a complex structure of economic outcomes based on both relational and positional motives.
