2016
Puhutaan bloggaamisesta : blogipuhe tekstilajia rakentamassa
2016
2) Millaisia normeja blogiin tekstilajina rakentuu…

Vertical competition in a unitary state
2000
The paper is concerned with what Albert Breton, in his theory of competitive federalism has called vertical competition, that is, competition between governments situated at different levels. However its setting is government systems that are unitary rather than federal and structured around three or four levels of government rather than the two often implicitly assumed. The paper tries to show that these characteristics may offer a partial solution to what is perhaps the major problem raised by vertical competition, that is, how winners in a vertical contest get protected against retaliation by the losers when the latter can change the rules (which are not constitutionally entrenched). In …

2020
The fall of the wall is an event that sets a date and raises a symbolic watershed that separates the before from the after. The essay analyzes the Italian literary texts that were directly confronted with the events of 1989 by reviewing a period of time that goes from the day after the fall of the wall to the present day. From Fortini to Volponi, from Giudici to Arbasino, up to Lagioia, Affinati and Camilleri: for these writers talking about the Berlin Wall means reflecting on the crisis of ideologies, on the contradictions of history, on the relationship between literature and reality.
Resisting Bodies: Power Crisis / Meaning Crisis in the Zombie Film from 1932 to Today
2011
Critics have repeatedly focused on the political subtexts of the living dead films of George A. Romero, revealing, notably, how they reflect specific social concerns. In order to determine what makes the zombie movie and the figure of the zombie so productive of political readings, this article examines, first, the classic zombie movies influenced by voodoo lore, then Romero’s initial living dead trilogy (1968-1985), and finally some of the most successful films released in the 2000s. Resorting to a post-structuralist framework including Althusser’s notions of state apparatuses, Foucault’s distinction between subjection and subjectification, and Butler’s analyses of subversive resignificati…
Injustice in the Ruins and a Disordered Post-Apocalypse: Gothic Ideology in the Digital Game World of Fallout 3
2020
The Gothic is an influential source for storytelling in a wide range of digital games. Thus far, interpreting it in games and how they are informed by Gothic ideology has been little studied. This study seeks to address this gap in research by investigating these issues in the narrative of the action role-playing game, Fallout 3. More specifically, through a close reading of the game narrative and by drawing on theories of the Gothic, ideological aspects of the Gothic are analyzed in detail with specific reference to non-player characters and their actions and dialogue along with elements of the mise-en-scéne, style, and simulation. Results show how classic Gothic ideology is reproduced in …
