This article seeks to investigate the changing perception of the term “translation” in feminist TS thanks to a continuous dialogue with other fields such as, feminist literary criticism, post-structuralism, postcolonial studies and cultural studies that have borrowed and utilised the notion of translation. “Translation” has become a “travelling concept” for feminist scholars who have utilized it in a metaphorical way for a feminist critique of language and ideology. Both schoolscape studies and recent conversation analytic (CA) research on classroom interaction have demonstrated that material artefacts such as images, texts and different kinds of objects found in classrooms have a significant role in educational practice. This article turns the spotlight on social action within a bilingual classroom, exploring how participants visibly orient to the surrounding material environment during instructional interaction. This article explores the introduction of Chekhov's plays to Italy through émigré circles in the first decades of the twentieth century, and traces how they were appropriated to suit the ideological exigencies of the time during the fascist period. It concludes with observations about Luchino Visconti's celebrated productions of the 1950s, which stressed the idea that Chekhov was first and foremost a political writer, and suggests how this particular view of the dramatist evolved in the early 1960s as the theatre once again reflected social attitudes and values. The aim of the study is to analyse artwork of Ernests Brastins (1892-1942) and Arvids Brastins (1893-1984) from the point of view of content and iconology, and the formal structure of work, which helps to reveal the author’s ideological direction. Using the comparative method, the visual text (artwork) is compared to the verbal (folklore) text, in an attempt to find parallels to the way they reflect Latvian mythological conceptions. An appropriate folksongs and beliefs are chosen for the artwork selected for the analysis, which serve as an explanatory material for the subject. Abstract: This article deals with the way so-called paratexts were used, in Finland in 1890-1939, in publishing translations of Anglo-American literature, and especially with the tendencies towards ideological closure that those paratexts manifest. The dominant ideology in the material is what could be called religious-conservative ideology, emphasizing the thought content of the works and their (educative, civilizing, sometimes also entertaining) impact on readers. ABSTRACT: An emblem is a witty combination of various texts and one image which delivers a moral message. The emblem is an art of the gaze, the purpose of which is to lead the eye to the transcendent ideas lying behind the veil of worldly appearances. Shakespeare was obviously sensitive to the visual potential of emblems. This paper aims to show that Shakespeare drew upon the modus operandi of emblems but rejected the emblem as a fixed ideological discourse. This article offers a close reading of Katharine Bradley and Edith Cooper’s lyric III in Long Ago, a Sapphic volume of verse published in 1889 under the collaborative nom de plume of Michael Field. This collection articulates a dramatic inquiry into the tragedy of unrequited love in a long cycle of lyrics whose third piece most effectively encapsulates the kernel of what the Fields reconstruct as Sappho’s ambivalent eroticism. in this article we intend to approach some of the major controversies that have affected the poetry written in Cuba in recent decades: the reflection on the relationship of poetic language with reality; the writing of the limits, the remains —that what ideology hides—; the crossing of different genres and artistic languages —poetry, fiction, image—, etc. To do this, we analyze two books published by the Cuban poet Reina Maria Rodríguez: Travelling (1995) and Variedades de Galiano (2008). Abstract Identity status interviews involving five domains of life (religious beliefs, political ideology, occupational career, intimate relationships, and lifestyle) were conducted with 249 women and men at ages 27 and 36.
