Effects of tri-n-butyltin(IV) chloride on neurulation of Ciona intestinalis (Tunicata, Ascidiacea): an ultrastructural study

This paper reports the cytotoxic effects of tri-n-butyltin (IV) chloride, TBTCl, on the neurulation process of the ascidian Ciona intestinalis. Exposure of the embryos at early neurula stage in 10−5 and 10−7M TBT (IV) chloride solutions for 1–2 h provoked the irreversible arrest of their development. Morphological and ultrastructural observations suggested that most probably there are two principal causes determining the neurulation process block. The first is due to the TBT effects of inhibiting the polymerization and/or degradation of microfilaments and microtubules, proteins that constitute the cytoskeleton. On solving separable block tridiagonal linear systems using a GPU implementation of radix-4 PSCR method

Partial solution variant of the cyclic reduction (PSCR) method is a direct solver that can be applied to certain types of separable block tridiagonal linear systems. Such linear systems arise, e.g., from the Poisson and the Helmholtz equations discretized with bilinear finite-elements. Furthermore, the separability of the linear system entails that the discretization domain has to be rectangular and the discretization mesh orthogonal. A generalized graphics processing unit (GPU) implementation of the PSCR method is presented. Fast Poisson solvers for graphics processing units

Two block cyclic reduction linear system solvers are considered and implemented using the OpenCL framework. The topics of interest include a simplified scalar cyclic reduction tridiagonal system solver and the impact of increasing the radix-number of the algorithm. Both implementations are tested for the Poisson problem in two and three dimensions, using a Nvidia GTX 580 series GPU and double precision floating-point arithmetic. New and less known Orthoptera (Insecta) from the island of Socotra (Yemen)

A list of nine species of Orthoptera collected on Socotra is reported. Three of them were previously unrecorded on the island (Trigonidium cicindeloides, Paratettix subpustulatus and Acrotylus insubricus) and one (Ochrilidia socotrae n.sp.) was undescribed. Further systematic notes on Glomeremus pileatus, G. mediopictus, Pyrgomorpha conica tereticornis, Acrotylus incarnatus and Sphingonotus insularis are included. The East African Acrotylus meruensis, previously considered synonym of A. incarnatus, is proposed as a valid species, distinct from the latter.

Research summary We analyze a novel way to configure and manage multinational networks and propose a model of "co-parenting", characterized by the sharing of parenting roles and distribution of responsibilities between two units. We develop our argument around the notion of the springboard subsidiary, an operating subsidiary which assumes headquarters’ functions since it shares greater institutional closeness with both the headquarters’ country as well as with the host region.
