Tässä tutkielmassa tutkitaan aikaisempien tutkimustulosten avulla sitä, mihin tarkoitukseen ikäihmiset käyttävät teknisiä laitteita, ja miten ikäihmiset ovat reagoineet teknologian yleistymiseen. Tutkielman tavoitteena on selvittää, millaisia tunteita muuttuva yhteiskunta ikääntyneissä herättää, ja millainen suhde heillä on digitalisoituvaan yhteiskuntaan. “Just Existing Is Activism” : Transgender Experiences in Martial Arts

This study focuses on transgender experiences in martial arts. Interviews with three Finnish and two British transgender martial artists were thematically analyzed, and findings were interpreted through the lens of queer theory. Two themes were identified related to the ways that transgender martial artists experience their sporting contexts, namely martial arts as an empowering and inclusive context and the challenges related to being transgender in martial arts. Tutkimukseni koskee ikäihmisten yksinäisyyden huomioimista vanhuspoliittisissa strategioissa. Kartoitan tutkimuksessa palvelurakenteen vastaamista yksinäisyyden problematiikkaan ikäihmisten elämässä strategioiden tasolta. Tutkimukseni ikäihmiset ovat yli 75-vuotiaita, joiden katsotaan tekeillä olevan vanhuspalvelulain luonnoksen mukaan olevan eräänlaisen rajapyykin saavuttaneita henkilöitä. Palvelujen tarve kasvaa 75 vuotta täyttäneillä selvästi. Suurinta palvelutarve on neljännessä iässä ja useimmat yli 85-vuotiaat ovat perustuslain 19 §:n 1 momentissa kuvattuja välttämätöntä huolenpitoa tarvitsevia henkilöitä vanhustenhuollon palveluissa. Ikäihmisten hyvinvointi ja sen tukeminen ovat tämän hetken tärkeitä puheenaiheita yhteiskunnallisella tasolla. Musiikin on monissa eri yhteyksissä todettu tuottavan myönteisiä tuntemuksia ja kokemuksia harrastajalleen. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin kuorolaulun vaikutusta ikäihmisten hyvinvointiin. Lisäksi haluttiin tietoa kuoroharrastuksen syistä.

Musical technologies are evolving in such a way that they start to resemble the people that use them. In this vision it seems pertinent to abandon the conception of musicians as users of musical instruments in favor of machines and humans interacting to make music. Both the machine and the human can be modeled as embodied cognitive agents that comprise a network of musical gestures. These gestures are multi-modal signals that allow the agents to exert influence upon each other towards making music. In this article we explore issues of embodied control that relate to current and future technologies in which body movements function as an instrument of control. Instead of just seeing ourselves in control, it is time to consider how these technologies actually control our moving bodies and transform our lived spaces. By shifting the focus from devices to choreographies among devices, we perform a theoretical analysis of the multidimensional aspects that reside within embodied interaction with technology.
