A randomized multicenter study comparing seawater washes and carmellose artificial tears eyedrops in the treatment of dry eye syndrome.

Purpose To investigate the safety and efficacy of sterile isotonic seawater washes vs standard treatment with carmellose artificial tears in dry eye syndrome (DES). Patients and methods This is a randomized multicenter prospective study with 12 weeks of follow-up. A group of patients with DES (N=60) were treated with seawater spray (Quinton®) five times daily, and another similar group (N=60) were treated with carmellose artificial tears eyedrops (Viscofresh® 0.5%) five times a day. Exposure to certain allergens via epithelial tissues is the primary route for tile induction of immunoglobulin E–dependent allergies of the immediate type associated with atopic diseases. In order to address the question whether and how epithelial cells might contribute to the induction or increase of T H2 -dependent IgE production, we performed co-culture experiments of syngeneic epidermal cells and cells from the associated lymphoid tissue or spleen (responder cells) of BALB/c mice primed with ovalbumin in vivo . Drug survival of anakinra and canakinumab in monogenic autoinflammatory diseases: observational study from the International AIDA Registry

Abstract Objectives To investigate survival of IL-1 inhibitors in monogenic autoinflammatory disorders (mAID) through drug retention rate (DRR) and identify potential predictive factors of drug survival from a real-life perspective. Patients and methods Multicentre retrospective study analysing patients affected by the most common mAID treated with anakinra or canakinumab. Survival curves were analysed with the Kaplan-Meier method. Statistical analysis included a Cox-proportional hazard model to detect factors responsible for drug discontinuation. We integrated this information to better define risk and determine the relative importance of APOE and immunological mediators.
