External iliac artery pseudoaneurysm complicating renal transplantation

2009

Objective: To assess the etiology, management and outcome of iliac pseudoaneurysms following renal transplantation. Methods: Eleven patients who underwent repair between 1982 and 2007 were identified. Five (Group 1) presented pseudoaneurysm at the anastomosis of the donor renal and native iliac arteries, and six (Group 2) presented iliac pseudoaneurysm following transplant nephrectomy. Intraoperative cultures and immunohistochemical examinations were obtained from all surgical cases to determine the existence of a relationship between infection or transplant rejection and pseudoaneurysm formation. Results: Endovascular repair (EVR) was used to treat three patients, while eight patients unde…

Renal transplantation by automatic anastomotic device in a porcine model

2015

Automatic vascular staplers for vascular anastomoses in kidney transplantation may dramatically reduce the operative time and, in particular, warm ischemia time, thus increasing the outcome of transplantation. Ten pigs underwent kidney auto-transplantation by automatic anastomotic device. Kidneys were collected by laparotomy with selective ligations at the renal hilum and perfused with cold storage solution. To overcome the shortage in length of renal hilum, a tract of the internal jugular vein was harvested to increase the length of the vessels. The anastomoses were totally performed by the use of the anastomotic device. On 10 kidney transplants, nine were successful and no complications o…

The Endovascular Management of an Iatrogenic Superior Gluteal Artery Rupture Following Bone Marrow Biopsy

2017

We herein report an uncommon case of a life-threatening retroperitoneal hematoma after a bone marrow biopsy. Two hours after iliac crest bone harvesting, the patient experienced syncope and severe hypotension. Urgent contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated extravasation from the superior gluteal artery. Transcatheter coil embolization was performed successfully, without complications. Life-threatening complications caused by retroperitoneal bleeding after bone marrow biopsy are very rare. There are few reports on the use of endovascular treatment in the management of life-threatening hemorrhagic complications after bone marrow biopsy.

A Multicenter Experience of Three Different "Iliac Branched" Stent Grafts for the Treatment of Aorto-Iliac And/Or Iliac Aneurysms

2023

Background: The aim of study was to assess the safety and effectiveness of 3 different commercial iliac branch devices (IBDs): the Zenith Branch Iliac Endovascular Graft; the Gore Excluder Iliac Branch System and the E-liac Stent Graft System for the treatment of aorto-iliac or iliac aneurysms. Methods: From January 2017 to February 2020, a retrospective reviewed was conducted on a total of 96 patients. Primary endpoint was IBD instability rate at 24 months. Secondary endpoints included onset of any endoleaks, buttock claudication, IBD-related reintervention and all-death rates, postoperative acute kidney, and changes in maximum diameter from baseline of the aortic aneurysmal sac. Modulatory role of a constitutively active population of α1D-adrenoceptors in conductance arteries

2002

A constitutively active population of α1D-adrenoceptors in iliac and proximal, distal, and small mesenteric rat arteries was studied. The increase in resting tone (IRT) that evidences it was observed only in iliac and proximal mesenteric and was inhibited by prazosin (pIC50 = 9.57), 5-methylurapidil (pIC50 = 7.61), and BMY 7378 (pIC50 = 8.77). Chloroethylchlonidine (100 μmol/l) did not affect IRT, but when added before the other antagonists it blocked their effect. The potency shown by BMY 7378 confirms the α1D-subtype as responsible for IRT. BMY 7378 displayed greater inhibition of adrenergic responses in iliac (pIC50 = 7.57 ± 0.11) and proximal mesenteric arteries (pIC50 = 8.05 ± 0.2) th…

Iliac-femoral stent-graft infection after hybrid procedure redo: Case report

2021

Introduction Stent-graft infection in peripheral arteries is rare and potentially dangerous. The use of hybrid procedures, in complicated patients previously treated, involves an increase of infective risk especially in no collaborative patients. Presentation of case We report a case of rare stent-graft infection in a patient treated for a Rutherford IV Multiple Peripheral Arterial Disease (MPAD) involving the right iliac-femoral axis with stenosis on deep femoral artery due to a previously stenting procedure for Superficial Femoral artery (SFA) stenosis. The first simultaneous hybrid intervention consisted of an endovascular iliac stent-graft placement and a surgical common femoral patch a…

Follow-up results of embolization therapy for palliation of incurable bladder carcinoma

1985

Embolization therapy of the renal artery (N=10), hypogastric arteries (N=18) and ureter (N=24) was performed in 41 patients with incurable bladder carcinoma for palliation of gross hematuria and severe dysuria. Careful follow-up of the patients until death gave a mean survival time of 12.3 months after embolization; 6 patients are still alive. The results show that embolization therapy is justified for management of bleeding and dysuric complaints. Ureteral occlusion alone has almost no effect on hematuria. Combined embolization procedures yield better results than occlusion of the vessels or the ureter. Ureteral occlusion with a detachable balloon is superior to embolization with tissue ad…

Uterus transplantation in a non-human primate: long-term follow-up after autologous transplantation

2012

BACKGROUND Uterus transplantation (UTx) may provide the first available treatment for women affected by uterine infertility. The present study aimed to further develop a surgical technique for autologous UTx in a non-human primate species and to assess long-term function. METHODS Female baboons (n= 16) underwent autologous transplantation of the uterus with the Fallopian tubes and ovaries, performed with a previously published surgical technique (n= 6, Group 1) or using a modified technique (n= 10; Group 2). The uterine arteries were dissected to the proximal end of the anterior branch (Group 1) or the entire (Group 2) internal iliac artery, and the ovarian veins were dissected to the cross…
