99 Muscle-tendon Properties During Recovery From Complete Achilles Tendon Rupture – A Case Study
2014
Introduction Achilles tendon is the most common tendon to suffer for complete rupture. Physically active young adults are often treated with surgery. Most of the patients do not suffer from activity limitations after injury 3 but performance level is often significantly decreased. 1,2 The purpose of this study was to follow recovery of Achilles tendon and triceps surae muscles after complete Achilles tendon rupture and subsequent surgery. This study served as a pilot phase for future research project. Methods Three subjects were recruited to this pilot phase of the study. Subjects were first time measured 2 to 8 months after injury and followed 6 to 8 months. Plantarflexion strength was mea…
Zur Achillessehnenbelastung im alpinen Skisport
1987
In an attempt to gain more systematic knowledge of the biomechanical mechanism involved in the genesis of injuries caused by a fall during skiing, we undertook a comprehensive analysis of more than 100 experimental ski falls simulated under controlled conditions. The well-known relation between speed, release time of the ski binding and injury risk of the lower extremity was confirmed by our experimental results. The EMG investigations revealed the central importance of the musculus triceps surae, and hence of the Achilles tendon, during a fall. The results of our biomechanical model indicate that the present method of setting the ski binding according to the tibial strength, is rather ques…
Okkulte Fraktur einer Achillessehnenossifikation ohne begleitende Sehnenruptur
2000
Ossification of the Achilles tendon is the result of a traumatic, hypoxic injury of the tendon. The usually asymptomatic ossification has a clinical importance only in case of a new trauma. We report about a patient with an isolated fracture of the ossification without an accompanying rupture of the Achilles tendon. Because of the radiologically "occult" fracture the diagnosis could only be verified by MRI. With a conservative treatment without resection of the ossification we could reach painless recovery.
Progression criteria in loading exercise programmes in lower limb tendinopathy: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
2019
IntroductionLower limb tendinopathies have high rates of incidence and prevalence. Their symptomatology affects the functional capacity of people to exercise and work, being an important cause of economic and social burden. The evidence from the last decades points to therapeutic exercise as the first-line treatment in tendinopathies due to its good short-term and long-term clinical outcomes. However, there is no consensus about how the load progression should be managed throughout the therapeutic exercise programmes. Methods and analysisThis systematic review will be conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The present p…
Forefoot strikers exhibit lower running-induced knee loading than rearfoot strikers.
2013
AB Purpose: Knee pain and Achilles tendinopathies are the most common complaints among runners. The differences in the running mechanics may play an important role in the pathogenesis of lower limb overuse injuries. However, the effect of a runner's foot strike pattern on the ankle and especially on the knee loading is poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to examine whether runners using a forefoot strike pattern exhibit a different lower limb loading profile than runners who use rearfoot strike pattern. Methods: Nineteen female athletes with a natural forefoot strike (FFS) pattern and pair-matched women with rearfoot strike (RFS) pattern (n = 19) underwent 3-D running analysis …
Assessment of etanercept efficacy in the treatment of psoriatic arthritis: ultrasonography of Achilles tendon
2015
Combination of hormone replacement therapy and high physical activity is associated with differences in Achilles tendon size in monozygotic female tw…
2009
Estrogen concentration has been suggested to play a role in tendon abnormalities and injury. In physically active postmenopausal women, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has been suggested to decrease tendon diameter. We hypothesized that HRT use and physical activity are associated with Achilles tendon size and tissue structure. The study applied cotwin analysis of fourteen 54- to 62-yr-old identical female twin pairs with current discordance for HRT use for an average of 7 yr. Achilles tendon thickness and cross-sectional areas were determined by ultrasonography, and tendon structural organization was analyzed from the images using linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Maximal voluntary and…
Load progression criteria in exercise programmes in lower limb tendinopathy: a systematic review
2020
ObjectiveThe objective of this study is to summarise and analyse the current literature about what progression criteria are applied in loading exercise programmes in lower limb tendinopathies and their evidence and effectiveness.DesignSystematic review.MethodsPubMed, Embase, Scopus and PEDrowere searched from inception to 24 September 2020. The inclusion criteria were randomised controlled trials that included patients with midportion Achilles, patellar or gluteal tendinopathy; assessed function, pain or performance; included at least one group where progressive physical exercise was administered as monotherapy; included at least a control group. We excluded studies that included subjects w…
Izvērtēta to atbilstība mūsdienīgam funkcijām un izveides pamatprincipiem. Diplomdarbs sastāv no 3 nodaļām, 10 apakšnodaļām un 3 pielikumiem. Tā apjoms ir 96 lappuses. Darbā izmantoti 13 literatūras avoti. Radošajā daļā tiek izstrādāts interjera projekts atbilstoši mūsdienu optikas salonu nosacījumiem, ba…
