Virtues of Mentors and Mentees in the Finnish Model of Teachers’ Peer-group Mentoring

This study investigated participants’ conceptions of the ideal mentor and mentee in the Finnish model of peer-group mentoring (PGM). Existing mentoring research emphasises dyadic practices, yet there is a lack of investigation of participants’ roles in group mentoring. The main concepts of this inquiry were dispositions (habitus) and virtues drawing on the theory of practice architectures and Aristotelian virtue philosophy. This paper explicates Husserl’s usage of what he calls “radical Besinnung” in Formale und transzendentale Logik (1929). Husserl introduces radical Besinnung as his method in the introduction to FTL. Radical Besinnung aims at criticizing the practice of formal sciences by means of transcendental phenomenological clarification of its aims and presuppositions. Based on a review of 63 case studies from the family business field, the authors emphasize the potential of critical realist case studies for family business scholars. The review revealed that the positivistic case study introduced by Yin and Eisenhardt is the disciplinary convention of family business field.
