Displacement Measurement Through Digital Image Correlation and Digital Speckle Pattern Interferometry Techniques in Cold-Expanded Holes

: In this paper, the displacement field induced by the split-sleeve cold expansion of holes was measured using both digital image correlation (DIC) and digital speckle pattern interferometry (DSPI) techniques. Thus, the experimental results, which were evaluated on the inlet surface of a 6082-T6 aluminium plate, were compared with those from theoretical prediction. DIC provided accurate measurements up to the elastic–plastic boundary, whereas the DSPI technique highlighted the changes of displacement in the elastic domain. Experimental and numerical assessment of subsurface plastic deformation induced by OFHC copper machining

Strain distributions in the machined surface and subsurface of OFHC copper workpieces were determined experimentally and through numerical simulations. An experimental setup, comprising a double frame camera and a pulsed laser, was developed to measure the displacement fields using the digital image correlation (DIC) technique; strain distributions were then calculated. A numerical orthogonal cutting model was also developed and applied in order to predict such distributions. Transverse Crack Tension (TCT) samples represent an alternative to End Notched Flexure configurations for the characterization of pure mode II fracture toughness of Fibre Reinforced Polymer composites. TCT is supposed to reproduce a pure Mode II failure mechanism while avoiding the frictional energy dissipation between the flanks of a starter crack.
