AUTOMATIC DETECTION OF SMALL SPHERICAL LESIONS USING MULTISCALE APPROACH IN 3D MEDICAL IMAGES
2013
International audience; Automated detection of small, low level shapes such as circular/spherical objects in images is a challenging computer vision problem. For many applications, especially microbleed detection in Alzheimer's disease, an automatic pre-screening scheme is required to identify potential seeds with high sensitivity and reasonable specificity. A new method is proposed to detect spherical objects in 3D medical images within the multi-scale Laplacian of Gaussian framework. The major contributions are (1) breaking down 3D sphere detection into 1D line profile detection along each coordinate dimension, (2) identifying center of structures by normalizing the line response profile …
Experimental Sentinel-2 LAI estimation using parametric, non-parametric and physical retrieval methods – A comparison
2015
Abstract Given the forthcoming availability of Sentinel-2 (S2) images, this paper provides a systematic comparison of retrieval accuracy and processing speed of a multitude of parametric, non-parametric and physically-based retrieval methods using simulated S2 data. An experimental field dataset (SPARC), collected at the agricultural site of Barrax (Spain), was used to evaluate different retrieval methods on their ability to estimate leaf area index (LAI). With regard to parametric methods, all possible band combinations for several two-band and three-band index formulations and a linear regression fitting function have been evaluated. From a set of over ten thousand indices evaluated, the …
Advanced Stochastic Petri Net Modeling with the Mercury Scripting Language
2017
Formal models are widely used in performance and dependability studies of computational systems. Graphical modeling tools allow users to compose such models with ease, but they complicate the creation of models with a dynamic/complex structure, the hierarchical arrangement of different models, and the automatic execution of models with different parameter configurations. To overcome this problem, we created a scripting language for the Mercury tool that supports the combination of different modeling approaches (e.g., Stochastic Petri Nets and Reliability Block Diagrams) in a single project. In this paper, we focus on the extensions developed to improve the capabilities of Generalized Stocha…
Solving Stochastic Nonlinear Resource Allocation Problems Using a Hierarchy of Twofold Resource Allocation Automata
2010
In a multitude of real-world situations, resources must be allocated based on incomplete and noisy information. However, in many cases, incomplete and noisy information render traditional resource allocation techniques ineffective. The decentralized Learning Automata Knapsack Game (LAKG) was recently proposed for solving one such class of problems, namely the class of Stochastic Nonlinear Fractional Knapsack Problems. Empirically, the LAKG was shown to yield a superior performance when compared to methods which are based on traditional parameter estimation schemes. This paper presents a completely new online Learning Automata (LA) system, namely the Hierarchy of Twofold Resource Allocation …
Dynamical efficiency of collisionless magnetized shocks in relativistic jets
2010
The so-called internal shock model aims to explain the light-curves and spectra produced by non-thermal processes originated in the flow of blazars and gamma-ray bursts. A long standing question is whether the tenuous collisionless shocks, driven inside a relativistic flow, are efficient enough to explain the amount of energy observed as compared with the expected kinetic power of the outflow. In this work we study the dynamic efficiency of conversion of kinetic-to- thermal/magnetic energy of internal shocks in relativistic magnetized outflows. We find that the collision between shells with a non-zero relative velocity can yield either two oppositely moving shocks (in the frame where the co…
The Y(3940), Z(3930) and the X(4160) as dynamically generated resonances from the vector-vector interaction
2010
We study the vector-vector interaction within the framework of the hidden gauge formalism for the sector with quantum numbers charm C=0 and strangeness S=0 in the region around 4000 MeV. We get five poles, three of which could be identified with the Y(3940), Z(3930) and X(4160). These poles appear with quantum numbers I=0 and $J^{PC}=0^{++},2^{++}$ and $2^{++}$, respectively, and can be considered as hadronic molecules made of $D^*\bar{D}^*$, $D_s^*\bar{D}^*_s$.

Improving point matching on multimodal images using distance and orientation automatic filtering
2016
International audience; Speed Up Robust Features SURF is one of the most popular and efficient methods used for image registration task. In order to achieve a correct registration, a good matching of feature point is required. However in the case of multimodal images, the high and non-linear intensity changes between different modalities led to many outliers (mismatching of detected points) and consequently a fail in the registration. Therefore, in this paper we introduce an efficient method devoted to the detection and removal of such outlier. It's based on an automatic filtering of outliers on both distance and orientation between features points. We tested our proposed method on a set of…
Effects of caspase inhibitors (z-VAD-fmk, z-VDVAD-fmk) on Nile Red fluorescence pattern in 7-ketocholesterol-treated cells: Investigation by flow cyt…
2007
Background: The 7-ketocholesterol (7KC)-induced cell death has some characteristics of apoptosis and is associated with polar lipid accumulation. So, we investigated the effects of the broad-spectrum caspase inhibitor z-VAD-fmk and of the caspase-2 inhibitor z-VDVAD-fmk on lipid profile evaluated by staining with Nile Red (NR). Methods: The 7KC-treated human monocytic U937 cells were cultured in the absence or in the presence of the caspase inhibitors z-VAD-fmk or z-VDVAD-fmk. When staining with NR is performed, neutral and polar lipids have yellow and orange/red emission, respectively, and fluorescence was then analyzed by flow cytometry (FCM) and by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLS…
ICDAR 2021 Competition on Historical Document Classification
2021
International audience; This competition investigated the performance of historical document classification. The analysis of historical documents is a difficult challenge commonly solved by trained humanists. We provided three different classification tasks, which can be solved individually or jointly: font group/script type, location, date. The document images are provided by several institutions and are taken from handwritten and printed books as well as from charters. In contrast to previous competitions, all participants relied upon Deep Learning based approaches. Nevertheless, we saw a great performance variety of the different submitted systems. The easiest task seemed to be font grou…
